As a devoted follower of the enchanting world of Indian cinema, I have been fortunate enough to witness the extraordinary journey of Sujoy Ghosh, a director whose resilience and determination have consistently left me in awe. His tale is not merely about the movies he has created, but rather, it’s a testament to the indomitable spirit that drives him forward.
Director Sujoy Ghosh recently reminisced about the time when Kahaani’s script was labeled as “nonsense” by many. He encountered tough times as he struggled to gain support for his project following a major setback with Aladin, a movie starring Amitabh Bachchan. In a recent interview, Sujoy disclosed that Big B stood as his greatest source of strength and couldn’t fathom why Bachchan agreed to do Aladin without questioning it. Ghosh also remembered that Bachchan promised him the freedom to pursue any project he desired and would always stand by him, irrespective of the situation.
During a conversation with Mashable India, Sujoy revealed that throughout various challenges, Amitabh Bachchan was his most significant ally. He mentioned that when proposing the Aladin project to Big B, the actor immediately agreed to join without any hesitation, which left him puzzled, although he didn’t inquire as to why.
Ghosh reminisced, “When Aladin failed, I believe it was the first time sir encouraged me by saying, ‘You can create anything you desire; I support you.’ And indeed, he stood by his word.
Sujoy remembered how he presented the Kahaani script to several people, yet his standing took a hit due to the flop of Aladin. He shared that many rejected his script, criticizing its quality and noting the unusual scene of a woman, visibly pregnant, dashing through Kolkata’s streets without any significant events unfolding.
The director said that this is primarily why Amitabh’s influence can be felt throughout Kahaani. “Amit ji is everywhere in Kahaani. His song, his voiceover, he did everything. They say that when God is busy, he sends someone. God must be busy and sir showed up,” he said. The filmmaker later collaborated with Amitabh on Badla.
Ghosh is gearing up for his upcoming movie, titled “King.” For this production, he’s collaborating with the duo of Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter Suhana Khan. In addition to them, Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma will play significant roles in the film. TopMob is offering unique updates on the filming plan for King.
It’s been indicated that the team plans to start filming King, an action-packed thriller, in January 2025 according to recent reports.
