Sunidhi Chauhan admits lobbying exists in music industry; says 'I haven't got money for many movies'

As a follower and admirer of Sunidhi Chauhan‘s talent for many years, it is disheartening to learn about her financial struggles within the Indian music industry. Despite being one of the highest-paid artists, she has faced instances where she wasn’t compensated for her work, which is a common occurrence in Bollywood.

For quite some time, Sunidhi Chauhan has been highly demanded in the Indian music industry and this high demand also makes her one of the highest-paid artists. However, her journey hasn’t always been filled with good fortune as she shared during a recent interview on Raj Shamani’s podcast that there have been instances where she didn’t receive payment for some of her best work.

In Bollywood, it’s often the case that many singers are asked to record scratch versions of the same song, and only the one whose version gets chosen receives payment while the rest go unrewarded for their work. Raj questioned if money isn’t paid in Bollywood at all, to which Sunidhi replied that not getting paid is a common occurrence in such situations.

In essence, the performer behind Sheila Ki Jawani openly acknowledged that well-known artists have the freedom to request payment for their services. Regarding singers in general, they can opt to claim their compensation either before or after performing, a practice that’s widely accepted and removes any potential blame from individuals in such situations.

Sunidhi continued discussing herself, stating, “I don’t have enough money for numerous films, and they still haven’t offered it to me. I decline when they ask because I believe this song doesn’t require money. In certain situations, I want to assist, so I set my price and sing the song. One shouldn’t offend anyone’s ego, as not everyone shares the same perspective or feelings.”

40-year-old individual recollected Sonu Nigam’s well-known statement suggesting influence by Bollywood mafias, asking “Who are they? Who will move ahead if not a few?” Chauhan confirmed this and added that lobbying is prevalent not just in award events, music, films, or reality shows but everywhere.

Sunidhi pointed out that certain situations are unavoidable, and we should carry on with our tasks. If we choose to engage further, let it be for the purpose of making improvements. She also clarified that if outcomes don’t turn out as expected, it doesn’t mean she’s a poor artist.
