Superman Confirms the Flash & Other Heroes Exist in DCU

In my humble opinion, as a film critic, I’ve got to say that the latest Superman flick left me utterly thrilled! Tucked away in this blockbuster is an intriguing Easter egg that solidifies not only the Flash but also the Justice Society of America within the realm of James Gunn’s DC Universe. The film graced our screens worldwide on July 11, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly recommend you do! David Corenswet steals the show as Superman, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the DCU – Gods and Monsters.

Jay Garrick’s Flash confirmed to exist in DC Universe after Superman

In James Gunn’s DC Universe, it has been revealed that Superman’s appearance suggests the existence of characters like The Flash and other members of the Justice Society of America (JSA). This fact is depicted in a mural found within the Hall of Justice.

In the film, Lois Lane, portrayed by Rachel Brosnahan, embarks on a quest for the facts surrounding Superman’s vanishing act. This leads her to the Justice League’s headquarters, known as the Hall of Justice in Metropolis. She seeks aid from the Justice League members – Green Lantern Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion), Mr Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) – to uncover Superman’s whereabouts.

As they chat more, a mural emerges, featuring the Justice Society of America (JSA), DC’s initial superhero group. Inside the Hall of Justice, spectators can identify Jay Garrick’s Flash, the original Sandman, Wesley Dodds, and numerous others in the mural. The JSA made their debut in All-Star Comics #3, released in 1940. They served as the first team of superpowered individuals. Members of the JSA include Green Lantern, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Hourman, the Spectre, Atom, and Flash.

In a talk at an event in London prior to the movie’s release, Gunn playfully hinted that metahumans have been part of the rebooted DC Universe for three centuries. He also shared that there’s an influential scene featuring a massive mural detailing the history of metahumans in the DCU, which will be exciting when revealed to the public. Essentially, Gunn found it engaging and enjoyable to develop this complex and intriguing world.
