As a movie enthusiast with decades of film-watching under my belt, I must admit that I am both excited and intrigued by the new Superman teaser trailer. The director James Gunn seems to have a knack for creating engaging narratives, and his take on the Man of Steel is no exception.
This morning, the highly anticipated Superman sneak peek was unveiled, igniting discussions among fans eagerly waiting for a sneak peek into director James Gunn’s interpretation of the Man of Steel. The response has been predominantly favorable, with the overall tone of the trailer garnering the most acclaim at this point. It appears that Gunn may have let his enthusiasm spill over, as he hinted at another aspect of the film in addition to the release of the trailer.
At a Warner Bros. preview event, the first glimpse of the upcoming movie titled “Superman” was revealed to a select group of journalists and key cast members such as David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult. During this event, Brandon Davis from Phase Hero YouTube asked the director if there is an end-credits scene in the film. After contemplating whether to disclose it or not, Gunn replied vaguely that there would be some sort of post-credit sequence, but emphasized that it won’t establish entire universes, a nod towards his previous experience with overly expansive post-credit scenes in the MCU.
“I won’t be crafting entire universes with post-credits scenes. While I enjoy surprising audiences who stay till the end for those scenes, I prefer not to use them as a means to establish the next part of the universe. I understand the pressures and challenges that come with following through on a great post-credits scene.
Post-Credits Scenes Have Become Way Too Common in Superhero Movies
It’s somewhat unexpected that Gunn used the phrase “sort of” since one might think he’d prefer to keep such details under wraps, particularly given that the film won’t be released until July. With the first teaser out now and a full promotional cycle still ahead, there’s ample time for speculation. This comment could easily spark conversations among fans on social media, which, as it turns out, is beneficial even at this early stage because buzz about the movie never hurts.
According to Gunn, he has some background with this matter, particularly during his tenure at Marvel. When questioned about the post-credits scene of Superman, he recalled the instance when he hinted at Adam Warlock and realized he needed to follow through on that in the subsequent Guardians of the Galaxy film. The director expressed, “If you examine my credits scene in the Marvel movies, the one time I got myself into trouble was when I included Adam Warlock, because then I thought, ‘Oh dear, now I have to include Adam Warlock in the next movie’, which turned out to be quite a headache.
The success of Gunn’s Superman is significant as it marks the beginning of a fresh era for DC Universe under the joint leadership of co-CEOs Gunn and Safran at DC Studios. The film promises to delve into the fundamental aspects of Superman/Clark Kent, portrayed by Corenswet, as he grapples with his Kryptonian origins and human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. In addition to Corenswet, the cast includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, and Pruitt Taylor Vince.
Superman hits screens on July 11, 2025.
