As a movie buff, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I showcased my eagerly anticipated Superman film at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas. This moment was undeniably one of the most highly anticipated events during the conference. For those lucky enough to be there, I even offered a special sneak peek into the movie. However, the response from the DCU fanbase about Kal-El’s fragile appearance in the Fortress of Solitude sequence was split down the middle. It seems that some viewers found this more vulnerable portrayal of the cherished superhero to be off-putting. One vocal fan, speaking on behalf of many, expressed their displeasure on social media as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
People believe that James Gunn has grasped the task at hand. They assuredly won’t turn it into a mindless comedy, they said. They suggested he got the assignment right. However, that was the most unimpressive Superman clip I have ever witnessed. It appears to be nothing more than a joke, and it seems to heavily focus on Krypto instead.
In the contested clip shown in the wintery teaser trailer, a damaged Superman (David Corenswet), sporting bruises, blood, and signs of a beating, is saved by his loyal pet Krypto the dog. As part of CinemaCon’s sneak peek, Krypto drags Superman into the Fortress for medical attention by four mechanical attendants. These robots intensify the yellow sun’s rays to heal Kal-El while he cries in pain during this process. Another disgruntled fan expressed:

A more genuine Superman wouldn’t require multiple machines to transport him to a table for healing… nor would he complain like a fragile creature when sunlight touches him.
Regardless of whether it’s accurate or not, one fan drew a comparison between Gunn’s portrayal of The Last Son of Krypton and Zack Snyder’s Superman, who was played by Henry Cavill in the discontinued DCEU. This online user specifically mentioned the epic fight between Man of Steel and Doomsday in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice by referencing it.
In the comics, Snyder’s version of Superman endured a nuclear blast up close and recovered under the sun without experiencing any radiation pain, as portrayed accurately. Contrastingly, Gunn’s depiction of him seems to be one that screams in agony instead.
Everyone Loves Krypto the Superdog!
I couldn’t help but notice the excitement surrounding the recent sneak peek of Superman at CinemaCon. However, it wasn’t just the portrayal of Kal-El (Corenswet) that stirred emotions among fans – it was also Krypto the Superdog! Many found him to be a breath of fresh air amidst the vulnerability of our beloved superhero. Just like an ordinary pup, he can’t hide his joy when he sees his owner return home after a long time away. One fan on YouTube commented on their heartwarming bond, calling it “superb” and adding that Krypto truly stole the show for them!
For me, the reality of owning a dog like Krypto leaping at Superman with uncontained enthusiasm, not understanding that he’s causing pain, is all too relatable, chuckling to myself.
Superman yelps from pain as Krypto leaps onto him, discovering Kal-El motionless in the snow. Unaware of Kal-El’s grave wounds, the pup nips playfully at his boot and eventually his costume, hoping to entice his owner into a game. Another reader shared a humorous comment about the robots’ ominous forecast, saying:
“‘Fourteen fractured bones.’ Thanks Krypto for 13 of those 😂”
Another fan of the Kryptonian canine from Gunn’s Superman film wrote:
While lounging on my bed, I burst out in uncontrollable laughter at Krypto’s antics. In a playful leap, my overexcited Labrador landed on me, causing 14 of my bones to fracture.
