Suranne Jones, Nabhaan Rizwan Join Aimee Lou Wood in BBC Series ‘Film Club’

As a dedicated fan of heartwarming and witty television series, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming romantic comedy-drama “Film Club”! The casting announcements with Suranne Jones, Nabhaan Rizwan, Aimee Lou Wood, and Ralph Davis are nothing short of fantastic. Their past performances have shown their exceptional talents, and I can’t wait to see them bring this unique story to life.

On Tuesday, the BBC revealed new cast members for its upcoming romantic comedy-drama series titled “Film Club“. These additions include Suranne Jones, who is recognized from her roles in “Doctor Foster“, “Gentleman Jack“, and “Vigil“, as well as Nabhaan Rizwan, known for his work in “Kaos“, “In Camera“, and “1917“.

Actors Aimee Lou Wood (“Daddy Issues,” “Sex Education,” “White Lotus” season 3) and Ralph Davis (“House of the Dragon” season 2, “Othello”) are making their screenwriting debut with a six-part series that has been described as both “piercingly funny” and “utterly heart-warming.” This production is being distributed by Gaumont for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three. Fremantle will manage global sales.

In Film Club’s 198th session, Evie has been confined at home for six months following a setback, and this gathering serves as her sanctuary. Each week, she transforms the garage according to the movie’s setting and cherishes undisturbed hours with Noa, one of her few remaining friends. However, tonight is unusual. Noa has significant news – an exciting job offer that will take him far away across the country, which implies an abrupt end to their meetings. The harshness of this truth is sinking in, as they must confront the possibility that their friendship might evolve into something more.

Previously, it was announced that Wood would portray the character Evie. Now, Rizwan has been cast as Noa instead. Jones is set to play Suz, a quirky and unconventional mother to Evie. Additionally, Adam Long, known for his roles in “Happy Valley” and “Masters of the Air,” will play Josh, Evie’s boyfriend. Liv Hill, recognized from “Three Girls” and “The Serpent Queen,” is set to portray her sister Izzie. Co-creator Davis will take on the role of Dominic, the latest member of the Film Club.

The TV series, affectionately known as “Film Club,” which Ralph and I have been crafting for the past ten years, officially begins filming this week. We’re overjoyed and thankful to be working with such a fantastic team from the BBC. To collaborate with Nabhaan Rizwan Suranne, two talented actors whose work I’ve long respected, is truly an honor. This series explores themes of love, family, the struggle between heart and head, and the complexities of loving a friend.

Said Rizwan: “I’m excited, I feel relaxed and I’m ready… to parrrtaaayyy with the best of them!

Jones expressed, “I’ve had a soft spot for Aimee for quite some time now, admiring her authenticity, honesty, and wit, so it came as no shock that the script she and Ralph Davis wrote was equally captivating. It’s intelligent, endearing, and sharp. I can hardly wait to play the role of her supportive mother… and the added bonus is that I get to film in my hometown too.

Stella Merz, known from “Gentleman Jack” and “Renegade Nell”, is now stepping into a producing role for a series of six half-hour episodes. Catherine Morshead, recognized for her work on “Daddy Issues” and “The Full Monty”, will take the director’s chair. The executive producers are Wood, Alison Jackson and Jamie Jackson from Gaumont, along with Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.
