For six years straight, the movie industry seems to have faced one challenging obstacle after another. First came the global pandemic which resulted in unprecedented theater shutdowns and film postponements. Just when it seemed as though we had left those troubles behind, a significant writers’ and actors’ strike erupted, causing further complications and delays. It seems that Hollywood has been fighting to make it to 2025, but will merely reaching that milestone be enough?
In Hollywood, the phrase “make it to ’25” has gained significance, as studios strive to revive the struggling cinema industry, which hasn’t fully recovered from its pre-pandemic state. Despite the challenges, there are many reasons for optimism, with a host of high-profile releases this year that have the potential to be blockbusters, such as Superman, Avatar: Fire and Ash, a new Jurassic World, among others.
2025 Has The Potential To Be A Massive Year At The Box Office
2019 marked an unprecedented milestone for the worldwide box office, as a total of nine movies surpassed the $1 billion threshold. This list included not just one, but two blockbuster franchises wrapping up – Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. With the global pandemic emerging in early 2020, repeating that achievement seems unattainable. However, it’s possible that we might see such success again by 2025.
Indeed, the 2025 cinematic schedule appears truly remarkable on the surface. It includes a fresh installment of “Avatar,” another “Jurassic World” film, and an impressive three Marvel movies. These titles would have arguably constituted the most anticipated blockbuster lineup globally just a few years past.
Additionally, there are other productions, such as “Wicked: For Good”, that seem equally destined for success like its predecessor. The initial “Zootopia” was a massive box office hit, and its sequel is expected to perform well, though it might not quite reach the heights of the original.
2025 Has Some Big Movie Question Marks As Well
While it’s not a given that every film released in 2025 will be a box office hit, there is some uncertainty surrounding “Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning.” Despite the previous installment, “Dead Reckoning,” underperforming at the box office, its predecessor was the highest-grossing movie in the series. With speculation that this could be Tom Cruise’s last appearance in the franchise, it remains to be seen if audiences will flock to the theaters or if the film will only manage mediocre numbers.
In addition, James Gunn’s “Superman” film is set to release in July. While it’s expected to have a good start at the box office, it needs to attract a larger, more diverse audience to truly become a blockbuster. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case with recent DC superhero movies. This new “Superman” film marks the beginning of a fresh era for DC films, but it remains to be seen if general moviegoers will take notice.
2025 might set new records if all upcoming releases achieve their maximum potential. If that’s the case, it could bode well for the broader movie industry, including theatrical productions.
