Switch 2 Home Screen UI Remains Largely Unchanged from Original Switch

It seems disappointing to those anticipating a sleeker home screen user interface for the Nintendo Switch 2, as it appears that the new hybrid console’s interface will remain largely unchanged from its predecessor, based on leaked images circulating online.

The user interface (UI) of this new device closely resembles the original Nintendo Switch, but it does come with some enhancements such as a greater number of icons on the taskbar. One significant change that has generated curiosity among players is the large ‘C’ button; it actually functions as GameChat – Nintendo’s take on Discord for socializing and gaming with friends while streaming.

Three additional buttons have been added: a News Tab that could provide updates about Nintendo, a potential GameSharing option similar to Dropbox, allowing multiple users to play on different Nintendo Switch 2 systems, and a Game Cartridge icon positioned next to the Joy-Con icon. Nintendo has discussed this new era’s combination of digital and physical media in detail, with this icon being a part of it.

Apart from these modifications, the rest stays unchanged, with the Nintendo eShop logo continuing its position alongside the Gallery symbol.

It remains unclear if personalized themes can be used on the home screen interface. Since Nintendo did not discuss this feature in their presentation today, it’s unlikely that there will be many options for customization.

On June 5th, the Nintendo Switch 2 will hit the market with a price tag of $449, almost doubling the initial cost of the first Switch, which was introduced at just $299.
