Sylvester Stallone’s New Action Movie, ‘Armor’, Lands Dreaded Rotten Tomatoes Rating

As a seasoned moviegoer who’s seen more action movies than I can count, let me tell you that Armor has left me feeling more disillusioned than a thwarted bank robber. Sylvester Stallone, a man who once made my heart race with Rambo and The Expendables, seems to have lost his touch in this botched heist flick.

Perhaps it’s becoming apparent that action movie legend Sylvester Stallone should consider retiring his firearms, as his recent film, this year’s “The Armored Car Heist,” has earned a dismal 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 19 reviews. Although the score may still rise slightly, it seems improbable that it will escape its current “rotten” label.

According to Dennis Harvey from Varity, there was nothing particularly appealing about the movie Armor. He expressed his disappointment with various aspects of the film, including the script written by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert, as well as the lackluster action sequences.

The play’s presentation and acting don’t surpass the constraints set by Adrian Speckert and Cory Todd Hughes’ script. This means that the ordinary content remains unexceptional, lacking exciting elements, distinctive styles, or intricate character development.

According to Glenn Kenny from RogerEbert.com, the film received a score of 1 out of 4. He noted that Sylvester Stallone appeared noticeably less enthusiastic compared to his recent performances in the critically-acclaimed series, Tulsa King.

“Even at its relatively trim 89-minute runtime, “Armor” feels padded.”

In a different wording, Aidan Kelley from Collider gave Armor a poor score of 3/10. To put it in perspective, he considers Armor to be on the same level as recent disappointments like The Crow and Borderlands, making its impact potentially even more negative.

In contrast to Lionsgate’s previous unsuccessful action projects such as Borderlands and The Crow, which are often cited as lessons on what not to do in an action movie, Armor might not even leave a lasting impression.

‘Armor’ Had the Potential to Be a Much Better Action Movie

As Aaron Peterson from The Hollywood Outsider, I found myself yearning for a more captivating cinematic experience amidst the confines of this film, which seemed almost as impenetrable as the armored truck in its title.

In a more relaxed phrasing: “Director Justin Routt makes the most of available resources, and at times, glimpses of the greatness that could have been are evident. Despite their efforts, Jason Patric and Sylvester Stallone, Armor often falls short of realizing its concept’s full potential.

Ultimately, Travis Hopson from Punch Drunk Critics managed to find some praiseworthy aspects regarding Stallone’s performance and those of his co-stars. Regrettably, these compliments couldn’t prevent the film Armor from receiving that disheartening “green splat” (negative review).

As a cinephile, I’ll tell you that Sylvester Stallone certainly gave it his all in the movie “Armor,” but unfortunately, this run-of-the-mill armored truck actioner never managed to shift gears and gain momentum. Despite some commendable acting performances, it remained stuck in neutral.

Under the direction of Justin Routt and scripted by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert, the film titled “Armor” features Sylvester Stallone along with Jason Patric (known for “The Lost Boys” and “The Losers”), Dash Mihok (“Ray Donovan”, “The Thin Red Line”), Josh Wiggins (“Giant Little Ones”, “Walking Out”, “Mean Dreams”), Blake Shields (“Heroes”, “The Hollow”), and Erin Ownbey (“Atlanta”, “Echo”). For more details about the plot, you can read the official synopsis for “Armor” provided below.

Sylvester Stallone, an Academy Award nominee, and Jason Patric lead in a high-octane thriller that explores the extreme measures one man takes to protect his family and regain control of his life. In this story, James and his son Casey are armored truck drivers who find themselves in a perilous situation when they are targeted during a road ambush while transporting a suspicious package. Realizing the worth of their cargo, James and Casey team up to outmaneuver and overpower their attackers.
