As a devoted admirer who has spent countless hours immersed in the hypnotic rhythms of Ustad Zakir Hussain’s tabla playing, I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. His music was not just notes and beats, but a symphony that transcended boundaries, touching hearts and souls around the world.
Legendary Indian tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain gained international acclaim as a masterful artist when he showcased his exceptional talent beyond borders. He garnered numerous prestigious awards at high-profile global ceremonies and was bestowed the Padma Vibhushan by the Indian government in 2023. However, distressing news about his declining health made headlines, and it is with great sadness that we announce his passing.
Today, on December 15, 2024, Rakesh Chaurasia, a close friend of Zakir Hussain (the flutist), shared with PTI that Zakir has been hospitalized in San Francisco due to heart issues. Specifically, he’s been hospitalized for a week because of a heart problem, and at present, he’s in the ICU. Everyone is concerned about his condition.
It seems that a well-known musician, aged 73, had been dealing with high blood pressure problems. Consequently, his relatives took him to a renowned hospital for treatment due to severe health complications. Regrettably, neither the medical professionals nor the fervent prayers of his countless admirers could save him, and he ultimately passed away.
