The Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto Hotel, a masterpiece by acclaimed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is strategically placed at the edge of the ancient city and the bamboo groves, thoughtfully created as a tranquil retreat.
Last year, I stepped into a one-of-a-kind sanctuary, a hotel that effortlessly merges with its breathtaking natural scenery, offering a soothing and serene atmosphere for visitors like me. This exceptional urban oasis stands out in the city with its Bamboo Pavilion, natural hot springs, and an authentic Noh stage where I can savor traditional Japanese performances. The design of this luxury hotel aims to create a tranquil haven that offers a calming respite from the city’s hustle while maintaining easy access to all the urban conveniences.
As a gamer immersed in a virtual world, one of the most striking elements of this digital realm’s inn is the Noh stage nestled beyond its boundaries. This stage is crafted with intricate louvers, making it seem almost ethereal and translucent, as if it were fading seamlessly into the dense forest foliage around it.
The grand overhanging roofs of the hotel provide a warm welcome, presenting a stunning three-level design crafted from horizontal wood beams reminiscent of classic Japanese construction. Simultaneously, it exudes a tranquil and contemporary ambiance.
Besides restoring the studio, they carefully maintained and enhanced the site’s existing greenery – trees, moss, a tiny bamboo forest, plus stone features. This verdant, untouched setting artfully hides the hot spring that fuels the hotel’s baths. By harmoniously blending the revitalized landscape with the surroundings, it adds to the hotel’s serene and enveloping ambiance.
