As a seasoned gamer and music producer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker‘s latest venture – Telepathic Instruments and their innovative product, The Orchid.
Known primarily for his music under Tame Impala and production work with artists like Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Travis Scott, and Ye, Kevin Parker has also established a new tech company called Telepathic Instruments. Their debut product, The Orchid, is an innovative portable device that serves as a melodic exploration tool for musicians and producers at all skill levels, featuring a digital polysynthesizer.
The team behind the company, consisting of Ignacio Germade, Chris Adams, Charl Laubscher, Tom Cosm, and myself, has brought on Stefan Stenzel to aid in synthesizer design. This synth offers five distinct stylistic modes: Strum, Slop, Arpeggiator, Pattern, and Harp. The various chord voices can be transposed and rearranged across the entire keyboard scale, allowing for a broad pitch range. Furthermore, reverb, chorus, and delay effects can be applied to enhance the sound’s richness.
As a gamer, I find the Loop function incredibly helpful in developing concepts and layouts, which I later effortlessly translate into my main production software using a MIDI cable.
See the video below for a demo of The Orchid’s capabilities.
