Taylor Kitsch Was Asked to Return for ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reboot But Only Wants to Do One Episode

Taylor Kitsch is open to returning to Friday Night Lights, but he wouldn’t want to stay very long.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about the revival of the beloved mid-2000s football drama series. Recently, during an engaging chat on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, Taylor Kitsch shed some light on his potential role in this exciting comeback. When discussing his upcoming Netflix project, American Primeval, a collaboration with Friday Night Lights’ creator Peter Berg, he casually mentioned that he’s been approached for the reboot but has only agreed to appear in a single episode.

Kitsch clarified that he’s been invited to join the remake, and he won’t discuss it further. However, he wouldn’t rule out a potential return, hinting at possibly appearing in just one episode.

He mentioned that he’s always appreciative, yet he doesn’t feel inclined to participate in the entire event. He’d enjoy himself, but he has no interest in spearheading a revival of FNL.

Although he’s uncertain about taking on the main role again, Kitsch expressed his readiness to reappear as Tim Riggins or introduce a fresh character in the Friday Night Lights series. “I would be up for either,” he stated, mentioning that fans might find it challenging to associate him with a new character within the Friday Night Lights universe.

He mentioned, ‘I might design something quite entertaining, though others might recognize it as distinctly my style – they’d say, ‘That’s Riggins.’ In another role perhaps, I could face off against a rival team’s coach on-screen for just a few moments.

In a small Texas town reeling from a destructive hurricane, an underdog high school football team and their makeshift coach embark on a surprising journey towards the state championship. Along the way, they serve as a shining example of hope and resilience for their community.

In the initial show, Kitsch shared screen time with Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Jesse Plemons, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, Gaius Charles, Scott Porter, Aimee Teegarden, Adrianne Palicki, and Michael B. Jordan, as well as several other talented actors.

The upcoming TV series is set to bring back several of its initial visionaries, such as creator and pilot director Berg, head writer Jason Katims, and Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment in an executive producer role. Together with Imagine’s Kristen Zolner, they will all serve as executive producers for the show. However, it’s worth noting that Jason Katims will specifically be in charge of running the series.
