I’m thrilled that Taylor Sheridan is teaming up with Brandon Sklenar from “1923” for a movie titled “F.A.S.T.”, but I have to admit I’m a bit dismayed about one aspect of the project. Initially, Taylor Sheridan made his mark in Hollywood as an actor, but he found his true passion behind the scenes. This led him to write numerous films starting from 2011 and even direct some. Notable among his works are movies like “Sicario”, “Hell or High Water”, and “Wind River”, which he also directed the latter. However, he is most renowned for launching the “Yellowstone” franchise, a collection of shows.
As a devoted fan of cinematic storytelling, I can’t help but express my admiration for Taylor Sheridan’s captivating work. Shows like “Yellowstone”, its spinoffs “1883” and the upcoming “1923”, as well as “Tulsa King” and “Mayor of Kingstown”, have not only captured my attention but also solidified Sheridan’s reputation as one of Hollywood’s most esteemed writers.
His upcoming project, “F.A.S.T.”, a movie based on a script he penned himself, is an exciting prospect. Yet, I find myself yearning for him to direct the film instead of just producing it. The thought of Sheridan at the helm would undoubtedly elevate this already intriguing project to new heights.
Taylor Sheridan Was Originally Going To Direct Fast
Sheridan Initially Intended To Direct The Movie
For Sheridan, the F.A.S.T. project wasn’t a fresh endeavor; he had written the script for an action movie during the mid-2010s. In fact, he was initially slated to direct the film and Chris Pratt was chosen as the main character. This collaboration would have been thrilling, but unfortunately, the project didn’t pick up much steam at Warner Bros., as its budget of $60-$70 million was deemed too high. After spending years in development limbo, it was revealed in 2019 that Sheridan would no longer be directing F.A.S.T., with Gavin O’Connor, the director of The Accountant, stepping up to take his place.
It’s clear that the project didn’t progress when O’Connor joined the team. Consequently, it wouldn’t have been inaccurate to think that the project was no longer active for the past few years. However, there’s a new development: F.A.S.T. has been accelerated by Warner Bros. and is set to hit theaters on April 23, 2027. This news signifies that production for F.A.S.T. will start imminently. The action movie will now be under the direction of Ben Richardson, who has directed several episodes of 1923.
Taylor Sheridan Hasn’t Directed A Movie Since 2021
Sheridan Is A Talented Director
It’s no wonder that Richardson is set to direct his first feature film with “F.A.S.T.”, as he has previously collaborated with Sheridan. However, I must confess my dismay that Sheridan decided not to direct the project himself. Despite having only directed three movies – “Vile” in 2011, “Wind River” in 2017, and “Those Who Wish Me Dead” in 2021 – his popularity within the industry is quite impressive, considering his relatively limited filmography.
Movies Directed By Taylor Sheridan | RT Critics Score |
---|---|
Vile (2011) | 30% |
Wind River (2017) | 87% |
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021) | 63% |
Despite some of his directorial ventures not receiving stellar critiques, there’s no denying that Taylor Sheridan is an accomplished filmmaker, particularly evident in the critically acclaimed movie Wind River, which boasts a remarkable 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes (via Rotten Tomatoes). Although he appears to be quite occupied with his expanding collection of shows, it’s unfortunate that Sheridan hasn’t helmed a film since 2021. Here’s hoping he resumes his directorial duties sooner than later.
Taylor Sheridan’s Fast Movie Would Be More Exciting If He Was Directing It
Sheridan Will Still Be Heavily Involved In Fast’s Production
As per the plot summary for F.A.S.T., Sklenar’s character is a ex-special forces soldier appointed to head a squad, targeting drug traffickers safeguarded by the CIA in their town. Given this outline, it appears that F.A.S.T. could be an exhilarating action film. Yet, I would find the project significantly more captivating if Sheridan were involved as a director.
Richardson might not disappoint with his work, but I can’t wait to witness Sheridan taking the director’s chair for another movie. As a writer and producer, I believe Sheridan will continue to exert significant control over the project. Furthermore, given that Richardson is new to feature films, it’s likely that Sheridan will offer valuable assistance during production. This is certainly beneficial, but let’s make it clear that it’s not the same as having Sheridan direct F.A.S.T. himself.
