Taylor Swift Calls Eras Tour “Most Challenging Thing I’ve Ever Done” at Final Show

As a gamer who’s been through countless virtual worlds and concerts, I can confidently say that Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour was nothing short of a global phenomenon. I’ve attended countless digital events, but none have matched the energy, emotion, and sheer scale of this tour.

On Sunday evening, Taylor Swift brought a close to her record-breaking Eras Tour in Vancouver, marking the culmination of 149 performances spanning 21 different countries and 5 continents.

At the start of our final concert, ‘Fortnight’s’ singer expressed, ‘We’ve journeyed across the globe with this tour, experiencing countless adventures. It’s been thrilling, electrifying, intense, and more challenging than anything I’ve encountered before in my life. We’ve had the privilege of performing for over 10 million people on this tour, and tonight we get to give it our all right here in breathtaking Vancouver. Let’s make this show memorable.’

It was disclosed on Monday that over 10 million individuals have participated in the Eras Tour, generating over $2 billion in box office earnings. This marks the first time a tour has reached a total of $2 billion, making it a historical milestone.

Before Swift’s last show, her opening act, Gracie Abrams, delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of all Swift fans.

Just as countless others, her melodies have mirrored significant phases in my life that I never thought anyone else could resonate with, grasp, or share the same emotions over – be it aching, yearning, loving, losing, and more. Yet, Taylor does just that. How are we supposed to find the right words for this connection? We may not have them yet, but one thing is clear: thanks to Taylor, her music, her kindness, her insatiable curiosity, her extraordinary talent with the pen, her uncanny ability to glimpse into our lives and compose soundtracks for every pivotal moment we’ve lived through and will encounter.

Swift seemed moved as well, during the extended standing ovation at BC Place after performing “Champagne Problems” from her album Evermore.

After the audience’s standing ovation, she expressed her gratitude, saying this tour had been an extraordinary experience not just for her but for her band, crew, fellow performers who sacrificed their personal lives to be here. They performed despite illnesses and personal issues, all to ensure this show was a success for you. On behalf of everyone involved, I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us that special moment.

It’s no wonder that the crowd’s feelings ran deep throughout the performance, but it was particularly noticeable during Swift’s last acoustic set, a segment where the renowned pop star often performs “unscheduled” songs.

Swift remarked as she introduced the surprise finale tunes, “We’ve had ample time to prepare for the conclusion of this tour. Therefore, I pondered, ‘Which songs truly embody my feelings for tonight?’ So, I chose to revisit the start.

Later, Swift showcased a medley of songs on both guitar and piano. She played a blend of “A Place in This World” from her 2006 debut album and “New Romantics” from 1989, as well as a fusion of “Long Live” from the album Speak Now, “New Year’s Day” from Reputation, and “The Manuscript” from her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department.

During the song “Long Live,” Taylor Swift significantly altered the lyrics from “It was the end of a decade” to “It was the end of an era.” This shift signifies the culmination of what she called on stage her cherished “Eras Tour.

After her heartfelt farewell, the show concluded with a touching group hug involving Swift and her dancers as well as backing vocalists. Instead of exiting via a hidden door like usual during the tour, the pop star chose to leave from the backstage alongside her fellow performers.

Once the power was restored, a display of credits for her band members, dancers, and backup singers appeared on the large screen.

Swift began the Eras Tour in Glendale, Ariz. in March 2023.
