TelevisaUnivision Quarterly U.S. Ad Revenue Drops 2 Percent, Streamer ViX Tops 10M Subscribers

In the second quarter of 2025, TelevisaUnivision, a significant media company in Spanish-speaking regions, saw a 2% increase in US revenue, amounting to $816 million. This growth was driven by a 9% surge in subscription and licensing income, despite a 2% decrease in advertising revenue. This financial report was released following the company’s announcement last week of anticipated softness in U.S. advertising and foreign exchange impacts, which they stated had negatively affected their most recent quarterly earnings.

The U.S. advertising decline showed a gradual improvement compared to the initial quarter, as growth in ViX and linear viewership rates leveled off due to the robust performance of our sports programming, according to the company’s statement.

TelevisaUnivision, under the leadership of CEO Daniel Alegre, shared updates on their streaming business during a recent briefing. They reported that this service became profitable within just two years after entering the market. Moreover, they announced that ViX, their streaming platform, experienced double-digit growth annually and now boasts over 10 million subscribers worldwide.

Previously, it was stated that the company had concluded 2023 with approximately 7 million subscribers.

In the second quarter, TelevisaUnivision experienced a 4% decrease in total revenue, amounting to $1.21 billion. This decline was influenced by a 11% drop in Mexican advertising revenue, causing an overall ad decline of 5%. The U.S. subscription and licensing revenue remained steady, but this was overshadowed by a significant 23% decrease in Mexico. This decrease included growth in the premium tiers of ViX in both regions, which helped to counteract the declines in the linear platform, primarily due to the renewal cycle with a major distribution partner in Mexico.

The company’s operating costs decreased by 9% to reach $812 million, negatively impacting the overall earnings. TelevisaUnivision reported a quarterly Operating Income Before Depreciation and Amortization (OIBDA) of $398 million, which increased by 10%. This growth was primarily due to the company’s focused execution and ongoing success in Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) sectors as stated.

As a devoted follower, I’m thrilled to see the substantial advancement our business has made this quarter. This progress stems from a revamped content strategy that’s proving to be strategically beneficial. By adopting a comprehensive approach towards our investments in premium scripted content, live sports, and multiplatform content, we’re witnessing enhanced performance and increased audience interaction.

He stated: “Our consumer-to-business operation is growing steadily, as ViX has exceeded 10 million subscribers and is experiencing double-digit growth due to careful management in product development and programming. With an exceptional team assembled, including recent strategic hires, we are excited about the ongoing progress of our transformation as we approach the second half of 2025.
