‘Tell Me Lies’ Renewed for Third Season at Hulu

As a binge-watching aficionado who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless television series, I can confidently say that Hulu‘s decision to greenlight another season of “Tell Me Lies” is nothing short of a masterstroke. The captivating tale of college romance gone awry, with its intricate twists and turns, has kept me hooked since the very first episode.

Hulu is going deeper into the tangled web of Tell Me Lies.

The broadcaster has commissioned another installment of “Tell Me Lies”, a drama that delves into the complex and potentially harmful relationship between two individuals (Grace Van Patten and Jackson White) during their college and post-college lives. This decision was made approximately two months following the conclusion of season two, which left viewers on a suspenseful edge. Meaghan Oppenheimer, who adapted the series from Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel and serves as its head, will remain in that role for the upcoming season.

Similar to many streaming platforms, Hulu doesn’t typically disclose comprehensive viewing statistics about its content. Yet, it has acknowledged that the series Tell Me Lies stayed in the “Top 15 Today” list for over 50 straight days both during and following its season two premiere.

After the season two finale, I shared with The Hollywood Reporter that I wasn’t entirely certain if a third season was on the horizon, but if it didn’t materialize, I’d be content with some plotlines remaining ambiguous: “I enjoy leaving people in suspense. And I believe some of my favorite shows, even when they conclude, leave things unanswered,” I said. “I don’t dislike stories that end on a cliffhanger. So, in a way, I was leaning towards creating a cliffhanger to keep viewers wanting more, and if we didn’t get the chance to resolve it, well, that’s just life (laughs). I’m always aiming to surprise people. I’m always trying to surprise the audience because it’s just so much fun.

In addition to Van Patten and White, the cast of Tell Me Lies in season two also features Cat Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Brandon Cook, Alicia Crowder, and Tom Ellis. (Note: The original sentence used “includes” while the paraphrase uses “features”. Both words convey the same idea but “features” may sound more natural in this context.)

This series originates from 20th Television. Oppenheimer is executive produced by Emma Roberts, co-founder Karah Preiss, and Matt Matruski of Belletrist; Laura Lewis and Stephanie Noonan of Rebelle Media; and Shannon Gibson and Sam Schlaifer. Lovering acts as a consulting producer. (In simpler terms, the series was made by 20th Television, and many different production companies and individuals are involved in producing it, with Lovering providing additional guidance.)
