As the Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault finals approach on May 24th, we caught up with Tennis Clash’s creators, Wildlife Studios, to delve into the importance of this tournament, their collaboration with the French Tennis Federation, and the exciting journey of their popular multiplayer tennis game. Keep an eye out for our upcoming exclusive content unveiling!
First off, how does it feel to be the creators of the official tennis game for mobile?
It’s both a great privilege and a weighty task for us to create Tennis Clash, a game that holds deep significance as both developers and enthusiasts of tennis. We are immensely proud of our creation, which has struck a chord with millions of players globally and encapsulates the essence of the sport in an entertaining, competitive, and user-friendly manner. Leading the pack in mobile tennis gaming isn’t something we take lightly; we’re committed to maintaining the high standards and authenticity that the sport demands, always seeking improvement and excellence.
Did you have any inkling of just how successful Tennis Clash would be during testing and its initial release stages?
Initially, we recognized a significant potential for an exceptional mobile tennis game due to its unique gameplay. We were certain of the engaging and innovative experience we were crafting. However, during the development phase, we never anticipated the immense popularity it would ultimately achieve. Yet, by the time we released it in 2019, we felt confident that we had something truly remarkable on our hands.
How do you ensure that the game stays continually fresh and relevant for its fans?
The essence of our approach lies in constantly updating and enhancing the gameplay experience. We strive to maintain excitement by introducing fresh game modes, progression systems, and regular events. Collaborations with renowned brands are a significant part of this, as we bring in unique characters, themed arenas, or special cosmetics – all designed to captivate and delight our gaming community. Our goal is to keep players hooked by offering familiar elements they enjoy, while also introducing fresh gameplay experiences.
Was Tennis Clash your first attempt at designing a real-time PvP title, and were there any special considerations you had to keep in mind during development?
Previously, we created multiplayer games in real-time, but Tennis Clash presented unique difficulties due to the rapid pace of tennis matches. To maintain a seamless connection between players and minimize lag, synchronization and swift response were essential. We had to innovate beyond the limits of mobile devices’ capabilities for real-time interaction at that time, and our efforts proved fruitful; Tennis Clash offers an engaging, competitive experience that has significantly contributed to its enduring popularity as a key element of its success.
How significant a role has the fan community played in Tennis Clash’s journey so far?
From the very beginning, the community has played an essential role. Their enthusiasm, suggestions, and inventiveness have significantly influenced the development of the game in impactful manners. A shared experience among numerous players is the sense of rivalry that arises when they feel prepared to compete against their friends, join clubs, or participate in local tournaments. Another delightful aspect is observing this competitive spirit during live events, where we offer novice audiences an opportunity to engage with the game. Frequently, you’ll see pairs of friends, or even siblings, engaging in intense matches at the Tennis Clash station, even though they’ve only just been introduced to the game. This friendly competition is a significant element that contributes to the accessibility of the game.
This month will see the eighth edition of the Roland-Garros eSeries. How did your partnership with the FFT come about, and how has the eSeries contributed to Tennis Clash’s continued success?
In 2022, when the Future Fighting Tech (FFT) expressed their goal of establishing the foremost electronic tennis competition, it resonated strongly with our aspirations for Tennis Clash. As a result, joining forces with them seemed like a fitting collaboration. Hosting the Roland-Garros eSeries within Tennis Clash annually has not only bolstered our reputation as the premier mobile tennis game, but also offered memorable experiences to our players, such as the opportunity to physically compete at Roland-Garros and visit Paris. This partnership serves as a fantastic means of celebrating the sport, fostering our community, and expanding the tennis world’s influence on a global scale.
Lastly, are there any upcoming updates or new features that players can look forward to this year?
Indeed, there’s plenty to look forward to! We’ve recently introduced Naomi Osaka into the game, which signifies the start of a fresh series we’re calling Legends. This roster will include licensed professional players, enhancing the realism and stardom in Tennis Clash even further. Naomi is merely the first; additional Legends are set to join us later this year. While we’re not disclosing any names as of now, fans are encouraged to keep a close eye on our updates.
