The team working for the upcoming movie titled “Cipher,” starring Terrence Howard, have decided to go on strike in order to negotiate a union contract with the film’s production company.
Workers involved in the project, currently being filmed in Louisville, Kentucky, started picketing on Wednesday. This action came about due to the production reportedly disregarding a plea to acknowledge IATSE as their representatives in negotiations without compulsion. The Hollywood Reporter has attempted to get comments from some of Cipher’s producers regarding this matter.
Workers at the project, which is happening in Louisville, Kentucky, started picketing on Wednesday. They did so because they say the production ignored their request to officially recognize IATSE as their negotiating group. The Hollywood Reporter has tried to get comments from some of Cipher’s producers about this situation.
Based on information from a union representative, the crew members were primarily motivated to form a union in order to have their work on the project count towards the days needed to become eligible for IATSE benefits. The source claims that production has resumed with a smaller team since the strike began, as they attempt to hire new workers to replace the approximately 35-40 crew members, depending on the day.
A picket line has been established outside the site where the production has its main camp and crew parking area.
Under the supervision of Tony Giglio, who both wrote and directed the film “Doom: Annihilation,” the upcoming movie “Cipher” is bound by contracts with performers’ unions such as SAG-AFTRA and the Directors Guild of America. Notably, Howard and Joel David Moore, who previously starred in “Avatar,” are set to appear in this project. According to a union-side source, the production budget is estimated to be approximately $3 million, and filming started on May 12.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming film I’m eagerly anticipating is on track to receive a substantial tax credit of approximately $1 million through Kentucky’s entertainment incentive program. The magic of this production will unfold in the heart of Adair, Fayette, Russell, and Woodford counties, making it an exciting journey for both the cast and viewers alike!
In the past week, IATSE has carried out its second significant protest, following a demonstration outside a Will Smith music video set in Los Angeles on May 23. This action led to the signing of an IATSE contract the very same day.
