Thanos

He doesn’t spend a lot of time on other topics, especially not unless you consider the time he devotes to discussing the controversial president during his Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologues. This week, once again, the talk show host was criticizing America’s leader following his recent series of damaging economic decisions, as well as his ongoing feud with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Initially, Kimmel highlighted that contrary to Trump’s pledge, affordable prices on various goods from the start haven’t been achieved. He also mentioned the current egg shortage in the country and the impending layoffs affecting half of the Department of Education. As he delved deeper into the topic, Kimmel elaborated:

As a film critic, allow me to share my perspective on an unprecedented cinematic event: “In this political thriller we call reality, the protagonist, Trump, has enacted a dramatic and disastrous purge. Akin to Thanos, he’s systematically wiped out half of the Department of Education, leaving it crippled and struggling to find its footing. The National Park Service, that cherished guardian of our natural wonders, has suffered a similar fate, leaving our parks vulnerable.

Our international alliances, the very fabric of our global relationships, have been torn asunder, leaving many questioning the future stability of our world. And, perhaps most painfully for many Americans, he’s even managed to snatch away half of their 401Ks, a cruel twist that leaves retirement dreams shattered and futures uncertain.

This purge, this Thanos-like snap, has left us all wondering: what else will disappear and not return?

Despite some of Trump’s executive orders being limited by the U.S. Supreme Court, President Trump has expressed doubts about whether the law truly binds him when he’s acting in what he considers to be the best interests of the nation, as Kimmel pointed out.

According to current legislation, President Trump does not possess the authority to shut down the Department of Education on his own; he requires an act from Congress to do so. However, in an unusual twist, last year, the Supreme Court decided that certain laws may not necessarily apply to the president, effectively making him exempt from following legal mandates. In essence, one might liken this situation to a more corpulent version of action hero Steven Seagal, who seemingly operates beyond the constraints of conventional law.

Jimmy Kimmel Is Donald Trump’s Constant Biographer

Many individuals express discontent with President Trump’s current policies, as his relentless pursuit to revitalize the U.S. economy by imposing tariffs on various countries frequently grabs global attention. Late-night talk shows like Kimmel’s often feature criticism of Trump, to such an extent that a collection of these monologues could depict a comprehensive account of Trump’s second term.

It’s clear as day that Trump and Kimmel will never agree on numerous issues, a fact that has grown increasingly obvious over the past few years. During the 2024 Oscars hosted by Kimmel, he publicly criticized Trump after the former president expressed his critical views about Kimmel’s hosting style on his Truth Social platform. Since then, they have consistently taken jabs at each other whenever given the chance, making it difficult to imagine a reconciliation in the near future.

In an unexpected manner, it seems Donald Trump might find value in how Kimmel frequently begins his shows by discussing Trump’s recent accomplishments. Given Trump’s affinity for things that are entertaining on television, anything that highlights the latest Trump-related events could be seen as such by some. Moreover, the saying “all publicity is good publicity” might apply here, though it remains debatable.
