As a seasoned gamer with decades of virtual and real-life experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of envy when I hear about Chase Stokes’ brush with greatness. The thought of being in the same gym as Chris Hemsworth and Arnold Schwarzenegger is every fitness enthusiast’s dream, myself included. However, unlike our John B., I wouldn’t have run away; I would have seized the opportunity to ask for a selfie or perhaps challenge them to a friendly game of virtual reality chess (I know they’re busy, but a guy can dream).
In a gym one day, an unlikely trio found themselves together: Chase Stokes, Chris Hemsworth, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. According to Chase himself, the sight of these three powerhouses under one roof had him making a swift exit! With the fourth season of “Outer Banks” due on Netflix in 2024, the John B actor shared an amusing tale about almost sharing a workout session with Thor and The Terminator. However, it seems that this encounter never materialized as planned.
The narrative unfolds from a Netflix gathering titled Tudum, held in the summer of 2023. With his third season as the lead on Outer Banks behind him, Chase Stokes was also hosting this event. Chris Hemsworth revealed details about Extraction 3, while Arnold Schwarzenegger, fresh from the premiere of Fubar a couple of months prior, announced Linda Hamilton’s inclusion in Stranger Things. During this event, after mimicking Chris Hemsworth on the loudspeaker, Stokes later encountered him again at the hotel gym. On The Tonight Show, he shared this encounter with Jimmy Fallon.
After returning to my hotel, I found myself pondering, “Indeed, jet lag is no joke. I think I’ll hit the gym instead.” Lo and behold, who should be there but Chris Hemsworth and Arnold Schwarzenegger, casually working out! It was just a couple of guys pumping iron in Brazil. Simply guys being guy-ish in Brazil.
Previously, I couldn’t help but express my admiration for Hemsworth, labeling him a “stunning individual” and an “ideal physical specimen.” Admittedly, his presence in the gym left me feeling somewhat awestruck, sharing the space with these fitness icons who are renowned for their exceptional physiques.
He went on to say that Hemsworth, who had told him at the Netflix event that his family were big fans of Outer Banks, invited him to work out. However, Stokes swiftly said no, hilariously explaining:
In essence, Chris invited me to join him, but I declined, explaining that I intended to practice yoga, breathe mindfully, meditate, and exercise on the treadmill instead. So I politely excused myself from his invitation.
Frankly, it’s not hard to understand why he might feel overshadowed. After all, being near someone famous for portraying a deity on screen, sharing workout routines that are legendary, and standing alongside an action hero who made his mark as a bodybuilder is quite overwhelming.
It’s true that Chase Stokes is fit, but Hemsworth and Schwarzenegger stand out due to their extraordinary muscular builds. To put it simply, they are just massive men. That’s why the star of Outer Banks might have felt a bit overshadowed in comparison.
Following this tale, I’m secretly wishing for Stokes to be part of a collaboration with Hemsworth and/or Schwarzenegger, as it would be thrilling to imagine them forming friendships and sharing screen time. Regrettably, at present, there seems to be no such plan in the works.
What is happening, though, is Season 4 of Outer Banks, which will likely include Chase Stokes showing off his athleticism as he runs for his life as John B. That premieres on the 2024 TV schedule on October 10. So, make sure you have your Netflix subscription at the ready because you can use it to go back to the OBX and watch Hemsworth and Schwarzenegger in Extraction and Fubar as well.
