The 31 Most Anticipated Scripted TV Shows of 2025

Last year, viewers noticed changes in television programming due to cost-cutting measures by media giants and labor strikes in 2023. This resulted in fewer shows being produced overall, suggesting that the era of Peak TV might be over for now. Notably, the shows that were produced, particularly those aired on broadcast networks, had shorter seasons than typical.

The positive aspect is that there’s still an abundance of television content out there that no one could possibly watch in a year, even with current cost-cutting measures in place. In fact, production has significantly increased in recent months, and many popular shows are coming back on air after extended breaks over the next 12 months.

As a gaming enthusiast eagerly anticipating the upcoming TV season, I can’t wait to dive into the 31 captivating series that The Hollywood Reporter has curated for us. These shows, ranging from fresh premieres to beloved classics, will grace our screens across various platforms – broadcast, cable, and streaming – in 2025. Here they are, meticulously arranged by their scheduled premiere dates, and I can hardly wait!

    ‘The Pitt’

On January 9th, Noah Wyle is collaborating once more with his previous boss from “ER”, John Wells, on a fresh medical drama. This series unfolds in the emergency department of a Pittsburgh hospital, where Wyle portrays Dr. Robby, the chief attending physician. Each episode (there are 15 in the first season) encompasses an hour-long segment of a shift for Dr. Robby and his team of residents and interns.

    ‘Severance’

On January 17th, Apple TV+ resumes the critically acclaimed drama series (which concluded back in April 2022 with a suspenseful finale), as characters Mark S. (Adam Scott), Helly R. (Britt Lower) and Irving B. (John Turturro) venture out from Lumon Industries to uncover hidden truths about their work lives. The second season introduces new actors such as Bob Balaban, Gwendoline Christie, Merrit Wever, and Alia Shawkat, along with others.

    ‘Yellowjackets’

On February 14th, you can enjoy Paramount+ with Showtime’s gripping Emmy-nominated series, “Yellowjackets.” This captivating coming-of-age drama tells the story of a soccer team who crash in a remote wilderness and must survive. The narrative unfolds across two timelines: the teenagers turning to cannibalism for survival in the past, and their transformed adult selves 25 years later. Key cast members include Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessell, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, and Liv Hewson. Season three finds the main adult survivors without original star Juliette Lewis due to the series picking up post-the events of season two’s finale. Guest stars joining this season are two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Joel McHale.

‘Saturday Night Live’ 50th Anniversary Special

On February 16th, NBC announced that they would be featuring a three-hour primetime special filled with iconic sketches from almost half a century of programming. The challenge lies in deciding which classic characters and star cast members (from both past and present) will grace the stage, as well as choosing which hosts have made the most frequent appearances throughout the show’s history.

    ‘The White Lotus’

On February 16th, HBO presents the third season of its globetrotting series, where we find another batch of affluent Americans at the Thailand branch of the resort. Returning cast member Natasha Rothwell reprises her role from season one. This season’s impressive ensemble includes Carrie Coon, Scott Glenn, Walton Goggins, Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Blackpink’s Lisa (credited as Lalisa Manobal), Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs, Tayme Thapthimthong, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Nicholas Duvernay, Francesca Corney, Arnas Fedaravičius, Christian Friedel, Morgana O’Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Julian Kostov, and Shalini Peiris.

    ‘Reacher’

In February 20XX, Alan Ritchson’s character, central to Lee Child’s popular book series and one of Prime Video’s highly-viewed shows, returns. Judging by the season three trailer, this time he encounters an even more formidable adversary during his upcoming assignment. The storyline is adapted from “Persuader,” the seventh novel in Child’s Jack Reacher series, and will bring back Maria Sten as Reacher’s former military associate, Frances Neagley. Notably, Neagley also features in an upcoming spinoff series.

    ‘The Americas’ and ‘Suits: LA’

For anticipation duration, few shows can rival “The Americas” in terms of excitement. This natural history series, narrated by Tom Hanks and produced by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit (the team behind the remarkable “Blue Planet” and “Planet Earth” series), has been five years in the making since NBC announced it in January 2020. On the same night, we’ll see the premiere of “Suits: LA”, a sequel to the former USA Network legal drama that became a streaming powerhouse in 2023.

    ‘1923’

On February 23rd, the second and likely last season of Taylor Sheridan’s prequel series Yellowstone, titled Paramount+, will premiere. In this season, characters Jacob (played by Harrison Ford) and Cara (portrayed by Helen Mirren) protect the Dutton ranch from a ruthless land baron (Timothy Dalton), picking up where they left off after the season one finale’s cliffhanger ending involving Spender Dutton (Brandon Sklenar), their nephew.

    ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that my favorite streaming platform, Disney+, is set to debut “Born Again” on March 4, 2023 – a continuation of the captivating “Daredevil” series from Netflix (2015-18). This revamped show follows Matt Murdock, a lawyer with extraordinary abilities, who was blinded as a child and is portrayed by Charlie Cox. In this new iteration, Matt finds himself squaring off against notorious mob boss Wilson Fisk, played by the talented Vincent D’Onofrio. Excitingly, original cast members Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal are also set to reprise their roles in this gripping tale. I can hardly wait!

    ‘Deli Boys’

    6th March, Hulu’s Story:

On the 6th of March, a comedy titled “The Onyx Collective and 20th TV production” is set to premiere on Hulu. This series stars Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh as two privileged Pakistani-American brothers who stumble upon their late father’s secret life of criminal activities in the convenience store business. Intrigued, they decide to step into their father’s shoes and navigate the underworld themselves.

The series consists of 10 episodes and was crafted by Abdullah Saeed, with Jenni Konner and Nora Silver overseeing its development.

    ‘The Residence’

On March 20th, Netflix will premiere “The Residence,” a new series from Shondaland that delves into the murder mystery genre common in television and film. What makes this show unique, though, is its intent to incorporate humor, making it a comedic whodunit. Uzo Aduba leads the cast as the intelligent detective Cordelia Cupp, with Randall Park, Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Mary Wiseman also starring.

    ‘The Studio’

On March 26th, Apple TV+ presents Seth Rogen’s newest project – a hilarious comedy series! Rogen not only plays the leading role, but also penned the script, directed, and produced this show. The story revolves around his character Matt Remick who becomes the head of Continental Studios, a fictional studio. Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders are set to appear in this series, which was jointly developed by Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez.

    ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’

On April 11th, Apple TV+ presents the drama series “Richard Jewell” starring Jon Hamm. After earning an Emmy nomination for his villainous role in “Fargo” and a part in “The Morning Show”, Hamm takes on the character of a divorced hedge fund manager who has fallen from grace professionally. To make ends meet, he begins burglarizing the homes of the wealthy individuals in his neighborhood. Along the way, he stumbles upon numerous secrets. The series, which has already been renewed for a second season, also features Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Eunice Bae, Isabel Marie Gravitt and Donovan Colan.

    ‘Andor’

On April 22nd, Disney+ brings back one of the finest Star Wars TV series for its second and final season. This season aims to conclude the prequel to Rogue One, featuring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, a Resistance fighter with a tragic fate. The story will be presented in four parts, each consisting of three episodes, spanning over a period of four years within the Star Wars timeline.

    ‘The Last of Us’

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that HBO is bringing back the Emmy-winning post-apocalyptic drama series titled “The Last of Us,” tentatively scheduled for April. The story continues with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), survivors of a pandemic, facing fresh challenges in a season inspired by the highly-anticipated game “The Last of Us Part II.” Five years have passed since the events of season one, placing our two leads at odds. Joining the cast are acting greats such as Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Wright, and Kaitlyn Dever.

    ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

The last season of Hulu’s Emmy-winning dystopian series “The Handmaid’s Tale” will continue from where June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) and Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) left off, following their escape on a Gilead refugee train. Since the beginning, Bruce Miller and his creative team, which includes Moss, have had a clear idea of how the series will conclude. For this final season, Yahlin Chang and Eric Tuchman take over as co-showrunners, while Miller works on adapting Margaret Atwood’s “The Testaments” for another spinoff.

    ‘Alien: Earth’

This summer, the “Alien” series will be making its debut on television for the first time as part of showrunner Noah Hawley’s FX-produced adaptation of the famous sci-fi horror tale. The story unfolds when a strange spaceship unexpectedly crashes to Earth, leading a young woman named Sydney Chandler and a diverse team of soldiers into a perilous encounter with our planet’s most formidable adversary.

    ‘Squid Game’

The eagerly awaited third season of “Squid Game,” announced by creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, is set to air in 2025 on Netflix. This final chapter will continue the gripping storyline, with Lee Jung-jae’s character, Gi-hun, relentlessly pursuing those responsible for the deadly game, including the enigmatic Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun.

    ‘All Her Fault’

Sarah Snook, known for her Emmy-winning role in Succession, takes on the lead in this thriller where she portrays Marissa. In the storyline, Marissa goes to pick up her son from his first playdate at his new school, but the woman who opens the door is not a familiar face, neither a mother nor the nanny, and she doesn’t have Marissa’s child. The series originates from creator Megan Gallagher (of BBC’s Wolf and Apple TV+’s Suspicion) and is adapted from a novel by Andrea Mara.

    ‘The Chair Company’

As a passionate gamer diving into the world of TV shows, I’ve got my eyes on an upcoming HBO comedy that’s got me intrigued. The logline might not spill all the beans: “After a cringe-worthy workplace fiasco, a guy gets drawn into uncovering a vast conspiracy.” But once I learned that Tim Robinson, the genius behind ‘I Think You Should Leave,’ is co-creator and star of this series, playing the central character, my curiosity shot through the roof. So, this one’s definitely on my watchlist with The Chair Company!

    ‘Duster’

    Max, To Be Determined
J.J. Abrams’ massive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery didn’t produce many completed projects (which is one reason he later signed a more limited, first-look contract with the conglomerate). However, Duster, an outcome of this agreement, is set to deliver excitement as it unfolds the story of the first Black female FBI agent (Rachel Hilson) in 1972 who partners with a getaway driver (Josh Holloway) to dismantle a crime syndicate in the Southwest.

    ‘Good American Family’

In the docuseries titled “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace” produced by a cable network, they delve deeply into the life story of Natalia Grace Barnett Mans. Later on, Hulu will present these events in a dramatic light through their series called “Good American Family”. This production stars Ellen Pompeo, who temporarily left Grey’s Anatomy to work on this series, as well as Mark Duplass and Imogen Faith Reid, portraying Natalia’s adoptive parents.

    ‘It: Welcome to Derry’

HBO plans to extend the narrative of the two upcoming It feature films by creating a prequel series, drawing inspiration from the interludes in Stephen King’s novel where adult Mike Hanlon investigates past encounters of the shape-shifting entity in Derry, Maine. This prequel is primarily set in 1962 and features actors like Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. Bill Skarsgard will reprise his role as Pennywise in this series.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

HBO’s second “Game of Thrones” spin-off series, titled as yet, is being developed by George R.R. Martin, along with showrunner Ira Parker. The story follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Based on Martin’s less serious Dunk and Egg novellas, the series will premiere with six episodes in its first season.

    ‘Long Bright River’

The limited series, derived from Liz Moore’s popular novel, features Amanda Seyfried as Mickey, a Philadelphia police officer who enforces law in a neighborhood heavily affected by the opioid epidemic. As a string of murders unfolds within this area, Mickey becomes increasingly convinced that her past might be linked to these crimes. Liz Moore and showrunner Nikki Toscano are among the series’ writers.

    ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’

The upcoming second season of Disney+’s hit original series, not from their Marvel or Star Wars franchises, is set in “The Sea of Monsters” – the second book by author Rick Riordan featuring the demigod Percy Jackson (played by Walker Scobell). This season follows Percy as he embarks on a mission to retrieve the Golden Fleece, with the aim of safeguarding Camp Half-Blood. Along the way, he encounters numerous challenges. [TBD refers to “To Be Determined”, so it’s not specified when this second season will air.]

    ‘Stranger Things’

    Netflix, to be determined (TBD)
Stranger Things will continue with its fifth season, set one year after the events of season four. In this instalment, Hawkins, Indiana, remains fragmented due to Vecna’s curse, although Max (Sadie Sink) miraculously survived. The fourth season also hinted that each antagonist encountered by the characters in previous seasons was actually a manifestation of a single evil entity: Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower), also known as “001” and “Vecna.” The upcoming fifth season marks the conclusion of nearly a decade-long journey for this popular Netflix series, which has consistently broken viewing records. The show’s cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Priah Ferguson, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, David Harbour, Winona Ryder and Brett Gelman.

    ‘Task’

Brad Ingelsby, the creator of “Mare of Easttown”, is set to deliver another series, this time taking place in suburban Philadelphia. In this upcoming show, Mark Ruffalo plays an FBI agent who heads a multi-agency task force investigating a series of drug-house robberies. The diverse cast includes Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Martha Plimpton, Mireille Enos, Thuso Mbedu, Raúl Castillo, Jamie McShane and others.

    ‘Wednesday’

    Netflix, still undecided (TBD)
It’s been over two years since Netflix viewers delved into the realm of Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), our quirky detective, spent her days unraveling the true identity of the murderous creature The Hyde. We’ve surely missed her peculiar charm and eerie allure. In the last episode, she received a text on her new phone hinting at a potential stalker. This certainly seems to set the stage for another mystery that only Wednesday Addams could solve in her unique way.

    Untitled Guy Ritchie Series

In this upcoming series, Ritchie delves back into the criminal underbelly of London, where it’s led by actors Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. The story revolves around two rival families whose businesses span globally, with Tom Hardy playing a character who fiercely loyally serves one of these powerful clans. This series on Paramount+ is yet to be officially titled (TBD).
