‘The Acolyte’ Season Two Not Moving Forward at Lucasfilm

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the expansive Star Wars universe, I must say I was intrigued by the premise of The Acolyte and eagerly anticipated its second season. However, it seems that fate has other plans, and as much as I’d like to believe in the power of the Force, even it couldn’t save this series from cancellation.

It’s been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that The Acolyte will not be returning for its second season. Instead, Lucasfilm has decided not to proceed with the Disney+ Star Wars series, which aired the final episode of season one last month.

The TV series created by Leslye Headland received moderate praise from critics, but received harsh criticism from viewers, garnering just 18% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. There’s speculation that it may have been targeted by review bombing. However, the lead actress, Amandla Stenberg, responded to racist backlash against her and the show with a song in June.

The series featured Amandla Stenberg as its lead actress, and it took place approximately a century prior to “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.” In this story, Stenberg portrayed twin sisters named Osha and Mae, who were separated during their childhood. While Osha was once a Padawan of a revered Jedi Master, Mae was aligned with the dark side.

The final episode left several intriguing plot threads unresolved, and it seemed as if Yoda might make a return. However, with the audience numbers not being substantial enough, it appears that there won’t be a second season based on what insiders have shared.

In addition to Stenberg, the series stars Lee Jung-jae, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie-Turner Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Manny Jacinto, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and several others.

More to come.
