On Monday, officials associated with the government submitted a document regarding Julie Chrisley’s case that asks for her initial seven-year prison sentence to be reinstated. According to WSB-TV, this is the stance of the prosecutors in relation to the former star of Chrisley Knows Best. The government has also disclosed a formal statement detailing whether they plan to present new evidence during the sentencing and their reasoning behind this request.
In regards to Julie’s resentencing, the government won’t present fresh evidence about her involvement in the bank fraud case. Instead, they will focus on the total loss of $4.7 million that occurred after Julie’s real estate company got its first fraudulent loan on July 11, 2007. At the initial sentencing, the government suggested a sentence within the guidelines; during ressentencing, they plan to ask the court to apply the same approach, which would mean reapplying the original 84-month sentence, as it falls within the updated guidelines range.
In November 2022, both members of the Chrisley family received their initial sentences. Todd Chrisley was instructed to serve approximately 12 years in a Federal Prison Camp based in Pensacola, Florida. On the other hand, Julie Chrisley was ordered to serve her seven-year term at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. However, by September 2023, according to Bureau of Prisons records, the sentences for the Chrisleys were amended. Todd’s sentence was reduced by nearly two years, and Julie’s was shortened by a total of 14 months.
The latest update on the government’s sentencing filing arrives following family attorney Jay Surgent expressing his expectations for Julie Chrisley’s release timeline. Surgent suggested that with the resentencing, her jail term might be reduced by approximately 1-2 years, and he expressed a desire to see her freed as early as “the next spring or summer.” Despite the final verdict, Surgent regarded the appeal court’s decision to reverse Chrisley’s sentence as a significant development.
