As a seasoned gamer of reality TV shows, I must admit that I was rooting for Devin Strader and Jenn Tran to have a happily ever after. However, the revelations about his past actions towards an ex-girlfriend are deeply concerning and hard to ignore. It’s disheartening to see yet another contestant with a questionable background being part of the Bachelor franchise.
As a passionate admirer, I’m sharing that Devin Strader, who was once proposed to by Bachelorette lead Jenn Tran, is opening up about an event from his past – a seven-year-old arrest and the restraining order that followed.
2017 saw the apprehension of Strader, who faced allegations that he broke into his former girlfriend’s residence in Louisiana. RealitySteve, known for its coverage on spoilers and news related to the Bachelor franchise, was the first to break the story, releasing what appeared to be an affidavit from Strader’s arrest warrant.
In a previously undisclosed court filing, my former girlfriend shared some troubling past occurrences that were recently unsealed by The Hollywood Reporter. She claimed that on one occasion, my actions became violent when I reportedly held her in a chokehold, muffled her cries with my hand, and sprayed saliva on her, all while at a Pelicans game where numerous spectators were present. To add to the distress, she woke up the following day with bruises on various parts of her body, including her knees, elbows, stomach, arms, and was left with a throbbing headache. Shockingly, after disclosing these injuries to me, I allegedly admitted to almost causing her death and refused to discuss the matter further.
She submitted a protective order, stating that not only did Strader physically harm her, but she also claimed he emotionally and psychologically tormented her. “He belittled me and stripped me bare. My self-worth, my dignity, and I pray no other woman experiences what I endured.
On the contrary, in a statement issued to THR and posted on Strader’s social media platform, the victor of The Bachelorette firmly denied the allegations, asserting they were “completely unfounded.
Lately, issues from an old chapter of my life have resurfaced and been significantly misrepresented. The allegations against me are unfounded as I’ve never physically or emotionally mistreated anyone, especially not my ex-girlfriend in the ways I’ve been portrayed. Contrary to what has been said, no restraining order was ever issued against me, and it was completely dismissed. My college ex-girlfriend and I eventually parted ways amicably after reconciling. Our relationship was my first true love experience, and it taught us both valuable lessons.
In the final episode of The Bachelorette on September 3, Tran asked Strader for her hand in marriage. But the season ended tragically as Tran confessed in the After the Final Rose special that he had ended their engagement over a phone call. More recently, Strader posted a lengthy video on Instagram detailing personal text messages between them to support his side of the story and clarify the sequence of events depicted during the finale. The video has since been taken down.
In his declaration, Strader likewise spoke about the video he posted showing their conversations with Tran, expressing remorse for any misstep in judgment.
After appearing on ‘The Bachelorette’, there have been numerous false stories and misinterpretations spread by the media that I feel compelled to clarify. I want to express my sincere apologies for the video I shared post-finale. I am not proud of that momentary mistake in judgment. He went on to say, “I acknowledge that I’ve made errors in the past and that I’m far from flawless. Yet, I’ve strived daily to become a person whom my loved ones can take pride in. I am deeply grateful to all those who have stood by me throughout this journey.
The recent disclosure of Strader’s past raises queries once more about ABC’s casting verification process for their shows, as this isn’t the first instance of a casting dispute disrupting a season. During Strader’s background check, it was known that there was an affidavit related to a burglary arrest. However, details from the restraining order were hidden from ABC producers during their investigations. A source from the production revealed this information to THR. It is assumed that Strader would have been questioned about these concealed facts; it remains unclear when the details became accessible or what Strader said to producers at that time.
