The Bear Season 4: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and More!

Since the final episode of the FX dramedy series “The Bear” left viewers hanging on a cliffhanger at the end of its third season, fans have been anxiously waiting to discover the contents of that restaurant review. Fortunately, they won’t have to wait much longer, as an official premiere date for Season 4 has been announced. Despite some mixed reactions following a controversial third season that disappointed longtime fans, enthusiasm is running high for another visit to Carmy’s hectic kitchen.

Scant details have been disclosed regarding “The Bear’s” fourth season thus far, given its upcoming premiere date. After the first season took everyone by surprise and catapulted some of the cast members, notably Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri, into stardom, their busy schedules have posed challenges during filming. Fortunately, the team’s enthusiasm for the show seems unwavering, so it’s probable they’ll continue to return as long as possible. Here’s what we currently know about “The Bear” Season 4.

When Will Season 4 Be Released?

Until quite recently, it was a secret to everyone not involved in its production when the fourth season of “The Bear” would be released. However, co-showrunner Joanna Calo disclosed the date during an interview with Brazilian media company Omelete on a red carpet event, rather than through an official press statement. Calo shared that the fourth season is set to premiere in the US (and potentially other regions) on June 15th.

The fact that the release date falls in June isn’t too unexpected, as The Bear has a history of premiering around the same time. However, considering the disorganized filming and distribution timelines of some of the actors’ other ventures, it was uncertain if the series would be prepared for an early summer debut this year. Fortunately, it appears that the producers have sufficient faith in their work to announce the release date publicly.

When Was Season 4 Shot?

It was initially planned to film Seasons 3 and 4 simultaneously last year, mainly due to convenience with the actors’ availability. However, The Playlist reports that this plan fell through when the scripts weren’t prepared on time for shooting. At a press conference prior to Season 3’s premiere in June, the cast revealed they had attempted a partial filming of both seasons at once, but not completely. While the specifics were left ambiguous, it seems reasonable given that production complexities might have arisen as time progressed.

Who Is Returning for Season 4?

To date, there haven’t been many public confirmations about returning cast members; however, it’s anticipated that key figures such as White, Moss-Bachrach, Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Matty Matheson, and Liza Colón-Zayas, among others, will reprise their roles. Given the central nature of these characters to the series, it seems likely that they won’t be leaving the narrative anytime soon. For instance, considering the pivotal role Carmy plays, it’s safe to assume he won’t be relocating to New York. Similarly, Edebiri’s Sydney being drawn towards opening a new restaurant in Season 3 hints at her ongoing struggle rather than an abrupt exit from the storyline.

More recently, it has been disclosed that Edebiri and her fellow actor Lionel Boyce, who portrays the sweet-natured dessert chef Marcus, are going to collaborate on writing a Season 4 episode. The specifics of the episode’s plot remain unknown, but given their past flirtatious interactions, it is possible that this joint endeavor could delve into the potential romantic relationship between Sydney and Marcus.

What Will Season 4 Be About?

In the near future, it’s undeniable that Season 4 will need to tackle the consequences arising from the restaurant’s initial critique, whatever its nature might be. As Season 3 concludes, Carmy’s Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) is seen in a state of panic, contacting him about the review, and the season finale has Carmy personally reading the review. Whether the critique was favorable, unfavorable, or neutral isn’t specified, with little indication from Carmy’s final, enigmatic exclamation, “Motherf*cker!”.

His response might have stemmed from anger over a negative critique, or a blend of enthusiasm and apprehension about the implications of a positive review. A key motif in “The Bear” is the challenges that emerge as a result of success, so while a favorable review may indeed ensure the restaurant’s longevity (especially since Jimmy has indicated he would withdraw his financing for a poor review), it would also likely bring increased scrutiny and the burden of maintaining high standards.

It’s fortunate that all the hints given thus far suggest that Season 4 could have a more light-hearted feel compared to the earlier seasons. In the same interview, Calo mentioned an abundance of joy, which is not typically connected with this series. Previously, FX head John Landgraf hinted that while Season 3 dealt with themes of being “stuck,” Season 4 would delve into the “unstuckness” that follows. This suggests that the new season might be filled with momentum after a season where characters were struggling to escape their old ways.

Where Will Season 4 Be Streaming?

Like previous seasons, The Bear season four will be premiering on Hulu in the United States.
