As a devoted fan of both Jeremy Allen White‘s captivating performances and the Star Wars universe, I am absolutely thrilled about this unexpected turn of events! With his exceptional portrayal of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in The Bear and his recent Primetime Emmy wins, it’s evident that White is a force to be reckoned with.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, Jeremy Allen White, am stepping into the Star Wars universe with an unexpected role! While my career took off from my stint on Shameless and skyrocketed due to FX on Hulu’s The Bear, winning two consecutive Primetime Emmys for Best Actor in a Comedy in 2023 and 2024, I’m now ready to rock as music legend Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me from Nowhere, produced by Disney’s 20th Century Studios. But the Disney magic doesn’t end there – I’m staying within the Disney family by embarking on a new adventure in a future Star Wars feature film!

According to Deadline, Jeremy Allen White has been cast to voice Rotta the Hutt, a character first introduced in the 2008 animated Star Wars film, The Clone Wars, as Jabba the Hutt’s son who was kidnapped by the Separatists. This information was initially shared on The Kristian Harloff Show by Jeff Sneider. Rotta the Hutt is expected to have a significant role in the upcoming film, although Lucasfilm has not yet confirmed this news publicly.

Currently, there isn’t much known details available about ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’. Apart from Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian and Sigourney Weaver in a significant role, no other cast members have been confirmed. Additionally, the character of Zeb, initially introduced in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ and making his live-action debut in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3, is set to appear in this movie as well. The film is helmed by Jon Favreau, who not only created ‘The Mandalorian’, but also has a history of directing blockbuster films like ‘Iron Man’, ‘The Jungle Book’, and ‘The Lion King’. The script for the film is written by both Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the creator of Rotta from ‘The Clone Wars’ movies. Interestingly, it seems that after nearly eighteen years, Filoni is revisiting this character.

Is Rotta the Hutt the Key Character That Can Unite Various Plot Threads?

The character played by Danny Trejo (Rotta) in “The Mandalorian & Grogu” could be significant since he seems to be a connection between this series and other Disney+ “Star Wars” projects. There was no mention of Rotta the Hutt after Boba Fett took control of Jabba’s criminal empire in “The Book of Boba Fett,” so it remains unknown if young Rotta parted ways with his father or is planning to reclaim the empire. Previously, Rotta was saved by Ahsoka Tano, portrayed by Rosario Dawson in the live-action Disney+ series. It’s possible that Trejo’s Rotta could feature in “Ahsoka” Season 2 as well, which might premiere on Disney+ in 2026, around the same time as the release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu” in theaters.

Casting Jeremy Allen White as Rotta is undoubtedly an interesting choice and not one anybody could have expected. While Star Wars indeed loves casting well-known actors in voice roles for characters, from Daniel Craig as a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens to Nick Frost currently voicing SM-33 on Skeleton Crew, White is a curious pick for Rotta given how the Hutts have primarily been depicted in Star Wars. One has to wonder if Rotta will speak in Huttese like his father, Jabba, or if Lucasfilm will have Rotta speak in Basic (The Star Wars in-universe term for English) like his uncle Ziro the Hutt in The Clone Wars. Playing a voice role in The Mandalorian & Grogu also opens the door for White to play another character in a future Star Wars project if he wants to. Jeremy Allen White is an exciting addition to Star Wars, but his character is unexpected.
