The Boys Homelander Actor Antony Starr Says Batman is Not a Superhero

The Boys Homelander Actor Antony Starr Says Batman is Not a Superhero

As a long-time gamer and comic book fan, I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of superheroes and their complexities. However, after portraying Homelander in The Boys, my perspective on some iconic characters has shifted. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve always had a soft spot for Batman – his brooding demeanor and determination have always appealed to me. But after discussing it with my fellow actors during a recent convention, I realized that my opinion on the Caped Crusader has evolved.

As a gamer and fan of “The Boys,” I can’t help but notice how far Homelander falls short of the ideal superhero role model. But even I have my reservations about Batman, the Caped Crusader himself. During an interview at the Denver 2024 Fan Expo, actor Antony Starr openly expressed his thoughts on the broader superhero universe, mentioning his favorite film and offering a surprising critique of DC’s iconic figure, Bruce Wayne.

During a conversation about his past idols, Starr expressed an unconventional viewpoint on Batman’s hero status. Nowadays, he’d be bold enough to argue that the Caped Crusader isn’t truly a superhero at all. At the gathering, Starr declared:

“I used to be a big fan of Batman. But as I grew older, I began to think differently about him. He’s not truly a superhero, you know? He’s just an ordinary man with a butler, wealth, and some gadgets. He wears the bat costume and carries fancy toys around, but he’s still just a guy with a significant grudge about wealth.”

Starr isn’t dismissive of the anticipation he feels for Batman’s next adventure in the new DCU. He expressed his excitement, stating it would be “fascinating to see how things unfold with the DC Universe under James Gunn’s direction.” Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ Batman universe continues to evolve, with “The Penguin” series on the horizon and “The Batman Part II” scheduled for a 2026 release.

Instead of “While Starr has cast a small amount of criticism towards DC, and furthermore disclosed that his preferred superhero film isn’t among their productions, let me tell you which movie is closest to the Homelander actor’s heart:” or

“I greatly enjoyed the first Avengers film. The initial Avengers movie stood out for me due to its impressive ensemble cast. I was impressed by how evenly the story showcased each major star, despite their popularity. The direction and pacing were spot-on, allowing me to fully appreciate every actor’s performance without favoritism towards Robert Downey Jr. or Mark Ruffalo.”

The fifth season of “The Boys” is now approaching a climactic and potentially cataclysmic finale for Starr, who feels the timing is perfect for the show’s conclusion. In agreement with showrunner Eric Kripke, Starr believes it’s important to end the series while it’s still popular and not overstay its welcome.

We’re all mindful of ensuring that our final season leaves a lasting and favorable impression. No one wants us to be the series that continued for one season too long and lost its spark. On behalf of the entire team behind the scenes, I believe we’ve earned the right to end on a high note, not feeling like we should have called it quits earlier or overstayed our welcome. It will be the perfect time to conclude, but making this departure will undoubtedly be bittersweet.

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news as a huge fan! According to Karl Urban’s recent update, The Boys Season 5 is projected to release around 2026. So, get ready for more action-packed episodes featuring Homelander and Billy Butcher!
