As a film enthusiast with a penchant for gritty superhero stories and dark humor, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming spin-off series of The Boys, titled Vought Rising. Having had the privilege to witness Aya Cash’s chilling portrayal of Stormfront in season two, I can confidently say that her return as a younger version of the supervillain is a masterstroke by the showrunners.
It’s quite a challenge to portray the most detestable character in “The Boys,” but playing an actual Nazi might make it even more so. The character Stormfront, played by Aya Cash, is back for the show’s first prequel series titled “Vought Rising.” Alongside her, fan-favorite Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) will also be returning. Although production hasn’t started yet on the eagerly awaited show, Cash’s hints have left fans thrilled, as she suggests that “Vought Rising” could reach new heights of shock and awe for The Boys fans.
At the premiere of HBO’s comedy series, The Franchise, Aya Cash clarified to Screen Rant that her character Stormfront in Vought Rising and herself should not be confused. She stressed they are two distinct individuals: “Let me make this clear, she is very evil. Extremely wicked, even. I don’t condone her actions and I can’t fly. We are two separate people,” Cash explained.
Although she dislikes her character’s behavior, ethics, and political views (which would be concerning if she didn’t), Cash thoroughly enjoyed portraying Stormfront in the second season of The Boys, and eagerly awaits reprising the role as a younger version of the supervillain. The actress has revealed that she has read some scripts for Vought Rising, expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming spinoff. Furthermore, she added:
Not only am I eager to return and collaborate with that team once more, but I’ve also had a chance to review some scripts, and they show great promise.
Stormfront Leads Upcoming The Boys Prequel Series
At San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Aya Cash will join forces with Jensen Ackles in a fresh spin-off series titled “Vought Rising.” This series, set in the 1950s, focuses on Soldier Boy and Stormfront (or Clara Vought) as they endeavor to unravel a grisly murder that takes place as Vought Industries ascends to power.
In the upcoming series, Vought Rising, Soldier Boy is expected to exhibit even more problematic behavior, akin to a troublesome boomer character, given his portrayal in The Boys. Previous episodes have shown glimpses of his questionable and misogynistic actions during the Vietnam War. As the new show is set around the same time period, Jared Padalecki (who plays Soldier Boy) will have ample opportunity to deliver an unrestrained, uninhibited performance, free from the influence of characters like Hughie, Butcher, or any semblance of societal decency.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Vought Rising” marks the latest addition to the expanding universe of “The Boys,” with several spin-offs in the pipeline. Following a brief pause during Season 2 of “Gen V,” production is now underway once more – a decision made after the sad and untimely passing of our esteemed colleague, Chance Perdomo. In an admirable move, showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters chose to incorporate his character’s passing into the narrative, rather than recasting the role. On another exciting front, “The Boys: Mexico,” helmed by the talented duo Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, is finally progressing after initial speculation of its cancellation. Announced in November 2023, this series has continued to develop and is now moving steadfastly towards our screens.
