The Boys Season 5 Just Added Its First New Cast Member, And It Has Me Thinking More Superbly Cringe Musical Moments Are On The Way

As a long-time fan of both music and superhero-themed stories, I can hardly contain my excitement about Daveed Diggs joining the cast of The Boys for its fifth season! Having followed his career since his days with Hamilton, I’ve always admired his versatility and musical prowess.

As we eagerly await the possible premiere of The Boys Season 5 in 2025 (fingers crossed), it seems that many fans are bracing themselves for what could be an intense, world-altering confrontation between Butcher and Homelander. However, I can’t help but hope that the showrunner Eric Kripke and the creative team will sprinkle more enchanting musical elements into the series before its conclusion. And wouldn’t you know it, the initial major casting announcement for the final season centers around a highly acclaimed musician!

Entering the intense, action-packed realm of an ever-expanding streaming world is Daveed Diggs, famously known for creating unforgettable musical moments throughout his versatile career. Beyond his role in the award-winning cast of the musical “Hamilton,” which undeniably leaves a lasting impression due to its unprecedented success on stage and on Disney+, Diggs has also expressed that he wouldn’t watch the recorded version himself.

From where I stand as a gamer, we’re all sailing towards an enormous whale carcass of uncertainty about the role Diggs will embody. In other words, it’s still unclear whether the actor will be stepping into the shoes of a hero, government agent, or any character from the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic book series, or if he’ll be creating a completely new persona.

The post from “The Boys” on their Xth page was cryptic, providing little indication about the upcoming role, as suggested by its caption which simply declared:

Joining our “The Boys” universe next is the talented Daveed Diggs! He’s set to bring his acting skills to life with one of our characters on screen. For now, that’s all we can reveal.

In a more polite manner, I wouldn’t describe Daveed Diggs’ casting as mere “crumbs,” but I assume the sentiment was well-intentioned, even if it lacked some context. To be fair, a few more details might have been appreciated, but overall, it’s not a significant issue.

Regardless, I’m confident that many others share my anticipation for Diggs to participate in a fresh musical extravaganza during Season 5, provided his character doesn’t lack vocal abilities or have an unconventional condition that prevents him from singing. Truth be told, merely contributing to the composition of songs or lyrics without performing them would also be satisfying. Before he became famous on Broadway, Diggs was a musician, although he might not be renowned for the romantic ballads Kripke is particularly skilled at creating.

In the initial four seasons, The Boys has undoubtedly presented some impressive musical numbers. Notable among these is Starlight’s powerful rendition of “You’ll Never Truly Vanish” at Translucent’s public funeral, and the entire production surrounding Vought’s ice-skating event themed around The Seven, which included the catchy tune “Let’s Bring Back the Spirit of Christmas.

But there’s precedence for rap music in the world of The Boys as well — A-Train’s “Faster” still hits — in case there was room for Diggs to spit some bars while slamming an iron bar through someone’s face. All that said, he talked about how he wasn’t into making his Snowpiercer character sing for the sake of it, and might have the same idea for his newest character.

You can stream all five seasons of “The Boys” with an Amazon Prime membership, but if you’re a fan looking for Diggs, you’ll find him in the just-concluded final season of “Snowpiercer” on AMC+.
