As a seasoned film critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the new trailer for “The Brutalist” has left me absolutely spellbound. The Golden Globe nominations, announced just yesterday, have only served to heighten my anticipation for this gripping drama.
This year’s highly anticipated movie titled The Brutalist has recently revealed a fresh trailer, boosting its appeal even further following the Golden Globe nominations it garnered the previous day.
Following the unveiling of the 2025 Golden Globe nominations, The Brutalist rejoiced at its recognition with breathtaking fresh clips from the A24 movie. Though it’s too soon to predict which category it might triumph in, spectators are already considering their wagers for a film that promises to be a formidable competitor at the upcoming awards ceremony.
The trailer focuses on just two out of the seven nominations for “The Brutalist,” indicating that A24 is already intensely promoting the film in the Best Picture and Best Actor categories. On January 5th, the movie will also be eligible for consideration in other categories as well.
- Best Motion Picture – Drama
- Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Adrien Brody)
- Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture (Guy Pearce)
- Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture (Felicity Jones)
- Best Director (Brady Corbet)
- Best Screenplay (Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold)
- Best Original Score (Daniel Blumberg)
In 2025, the Golden Globe Awards will be organized by the Golden Globe Foundation, marking a significant shift following the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s decision to step down due to numerous contentious errors. However, the upcoming event has already stirred up controversy, particularly in light of some questionable nominations, which suggest that the Golden Globes are yet to rectify their past blunders and accurately categorize nominees while acknowledging significant cinematic accomplishments. Indeed, this includes The Substance being nominated for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Denis Villeneuve’s omission from the Best Director nominations for his work on Dune: Part Two.
Does ‘The Brutalist’ Have a Shot at the Academy Awards?
As a cinephile, I’ve been keeping a close eye on Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” ever since its inception. This film seems to have all the hallmarks of a contender for the coveted awards during the season that culminates with the grand finale – the Academy Awards. The Academy has a soft spot for epic dramas that are steeped in biographical narratives and historical depictions, and this one appears to fit the bill perfectly.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m excited to say that “The Brutalist” could make waves at this year’s Academy Awards. If there’s one thing we learned from Adrien Brody’s shocking Best Actor win for “The Pianist,” it’s that he can leave audiences spellbound. Yet, Corbet’s masterpiece deserves even more recognition. I can only hope that next year, the Academy will judge films based on their merit rather than popularity. Truth be told, I just wish that all the nominated films receive a fair viewing by the Academy voters and that the controversy surrounding this year’s selections dies down a bit.
