‘The Burbs’ Series Remake Starring Keke Palmer a Go at Peacock

As a die-hard fan of 80s classics, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming Peacock series, “The Burbs”! With Keke Palmer stepping into Carrie Fisher’s shoes (or should I say, high heels), this modern take on a timeless comedy-mystery is sure to be a hit.

Peacock is packing up for The Burbs.

The streaming platform from NBCUniversal has commissioned a comedic mystery series directly, with the title being a nod to the 1989 movie starring Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher. Keke Palmer will lead the cast in The Burbs, a project that has Seth MacFarlane and Brian Grazer serving as executive producers. The duo of Grazer and Ron Howard, through their company Imagine Entertainment, were responsible for producing the original film

Palmer will portray half of a young married duo returning to the husband’s childhood home. However, their tranquil life is disrupted when fresh neighbors arrive next door, unearthing long-buried secrets from the cul-de-sac and introducing lethal perils that shatter the façade of their peaceful neighborhood

The film titled “The Burbs“, directed by Joe Dante and penned by Dana Olsen, received moderate feedback from critics upon its release in February 1989. Despite this, it debuted at the top spot on the box office. Over time, it has developed a small but dedicated fanbase, earning the status of a cult classic

Celeste Hughley, known for her roles in ‘Palm Royale’ and ‘Dead to Me’, is penning the series herself. This production stems from Universal Studio Group’s UCP. Hughley will serve as an executive producer alongside Grazer, Zolner, and Berkus for Imagine; MacFarlane, Huggins, and Carlson for Fuzzy Door Productions (boasting an overall deal at UCP); and Palmer. Olsen is a co-executive producer in this project as well

Fuzzy Door is responsible for creating “Ted,” the show inspired by MacFarlane’s film featuring a man and his chatty teddy bear

Here are the talent representatives for Hughley: UTA, Kaplan Perrone Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson. For Palmer, it’s 3 Arts Entertainment, Luna PR, and Hertz Lichtenstein. MacFarlane and Fuzzy Door are represented by WME and Jackoway Austen. Lastly, Olsen is managed by attorney Daniel Riviera
