The Chosen Gets Season 5 Trailer Teasing Jesus’ Last Supper, Premiere Date Announced

The acclaimed Christian historical drama is unveiling a fresh trailer centered around Jesus’ Last Supper. The debut of the upcoming season has also been confirmed, with the announcement coming after its limited theatrical run earlier in the year.

As a film enthusiast, I eagerly await the official trailer release for “The Chosen: Last Supper,” where I get to witness Jonathan Roumie’s portrayal of Jesus, noticeably distressed as the Biblical narrative leading to the crucifixion takes shape. In this gripping scene, he passionately appeals, “My home should be a house of prayer, but you turn it into a den of thieves.” The trailer also hints at the questioning of Jesus’ authority and remarks that “Jesus operates entirely outside our reach or jurisdiction.” Mark your calendars for June 15th, as this captivating series will debut exclusively on Prime Video!

The table has been prepared. The Israelites acclaim Jesus as their king, while his followers await his coronation. However, rather than challenging Rome, he flips the script during a Jewish religious celebration. With their authority at stake, the country’s religious and political leaders are determined to make this Passover meal Jesus’ last.

Initially, the debut season of “The Chosen” was funded through crowdsource financing, breaking records as the most financially successful crowdfunded TV series or film production ever made. Since then, the show has utilized various distribution methods and can typically be viewed for free, albeit with a temporary exclusivity period.

Previously, Seasons 3 and 4 were shown in cinemas before becoming available on streaming services. Earlier this year, the show’s creator Dallas Jenkins revealed a deal with Amazon Prime Video to debut Seasons 5, 6, and 7 in theaters first, with an initial 90-day exclusive streaming rights for Amazon Prime Video. Only after this period, they will be accessible for free. The achievement of The Chosen has sparked the establishment of 5&2 Studios, where two spin-off series are now being developed.

The Last Supper’s Prime Video Arrival Comes After Successful Box-Office Run

In a twist for fans, “The Chosen” Season 5 is set to premiere as eight episodes on Amazon Prime Video next month, but its theatrical release divided the new season into three separate films: “The Chosen Last Supper: Parts 1, 2, and 3”. The first film, released on March 27, has already earned over $24 million, making it one of the highest-grossing films so far at the box office. The subsequent parts of “Last Supper” were launched on April 4 and 11, with each movie grossing slightly over $12 million during their respective runs.

So far, the series has amassed a total of $120 million across ten cinema releases. Among its stars are Roumie portraying Jesus, Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Paras Patel as Matthew the Apostle, Noah James as Andrew, and Luke Dimyan as Judas Iscariot.

Season 5 of The Chosen hits Prime Video on June 15.
