The Conners’ Young Sheldon Connection Will Get Even Deeper During The Final Season

Contains general spoilers for “The Conners” Season 7

As a die-hard fan of “The Conners,” I can hardly contain my excitement as we gear up for the last episodes airing this month! It’s been a long wait, but finally, we’ll uncover how the beloved Lanford family bids adieu. What makes it even more enticing is that Laurie Metcalf will share the screen with her real-life daughter, Zoe Perry, in multiple episodes. In these installments, Zoe portrays a skeptical officer who’s taken aback by Jackie Harris’ decision to resume her policing career. It’s quite remarkable seeing Zoe, initially reluctant to join the cast, grace our screens on numerous occasions now.

Certainly, they’ve had a long-standing tradition of portraying younger and older versions of the same character. Therefore, taking on distinct roles represents a new challenge for them. In “Young Sheldon,” Perry embodied a younger version of Mary Cooper, whereas Metcalf played an older iteration in “The Big Bang Theory.” Interestingly, they’ve also shared a common role – the very character Metcalf is portraying in “The Conners” was previously shadowed by Perry in some capacity.

Zoe Perry and Laurie Metcalf have played the same character before

Zoe Perry made two appearances on “Roseanne”, portraying a younger version of Laurie Metcalf’s character Jackie. The first appearance was in “Halloween IV” during Season 5, where Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) reminisced about the holiday and its significance in their lives. Later, Zoe reappeared as a teenager accompanying Roseanne to a fortune teller. Although Zoe didn’t act again until the 2000s, she also had the opportunity to work alongside her father, Jeff Perry, in “Scandal”.

As Zoe Perry, stepping into the shoes of my mom, is quite intricate. I found myself standing before casting directors, and none other than Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro themselves. Then, fortune favored me, as the rest became my lucky story… I even shared a scene with the legendary actress who played my character’s mother on set, but only to hear her distinctive accent. However, I refrained from having her read lines, as I didn’t want those words to linger in my mind. Instead, I asked her to chat a bit and revisited some of her previous performances. Here’s hoping we’ll share many more years working together. “The Conners” returns on March 26.
