The Cool Record NCIS' Sean Murray Is Expected To Break In Season 22

As a dedicated NCIS fan who’s been through thick and thin with the team since day one, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride as I watch Sean Murray break yet another record for the franchise. With his unwavering commitment to the show, Murray is set to surpass the legendary David McCallum, who played Ducky Mallard, in the number of appearances across the entire NCIS universe.

The long-running TV show NCIS, now entering its 22nd season, also boasts two upcoming spinoffs. Last autumn marked the show’s 20th anniversary, and despite some cast changes over the years, Sean Murray remains a nearly constant presence. As a result, Murray is poised to break a significant and exciting record within the NCIS franchise during the next season.

In the debut season of NCIS, Murray initially appeared as Probie Timothy McGee, later becoming a recurring character before being promoted to series regular for Season 2. Over time, McGee advanced through the ranks to become a Senior Field Agent and even temporarily took on the role of NCIS Director multiple times. Despite the departures of popular cast members like Cote de Pablo, Michael Weatherly, Mark Harmon, and the unfortunate passing of David McCallum last year, Murray has continued to be part of the series. As per ScreenRant, Murray is expected to surpass McCallum’s record for the most appearances in the NCIS franchise.

As a gamer, I’ve been playing the role of Donald “Ducky” Mallard, the chief medical examiner, since the early days of JAG. Before his passing at 90, Ducky decided to step away from the limelight on NCIS, choosing instead to become the NCIS historian and a university professor. This allowed him to continue contributing to the show without being present all the time. Over the years, I’ve been a part of a whopping 459 episodes across the entire franchise, including stints on NCIS: New Orleans and JAG.

Regarding Murray, he has starred in an impressive 452 episodes, making him poised to hold the title of the longest-serving actor on NCIS when Season 22’s first half begins. Given the longevity of the series and the numerous actors who have come and gone, this is quite an achievement. Murray shows no signs of leaving, even after sustaining a permanent injury during filming, but it’s important to remember that nothing is set in stone. Needless to say, if I were in his shoes, I would be proudly boasting about this record for days!

Over 450 episodes were aired during Season 20 of NCIS, pushing the franchise to a staggering 1,000 episodes in Season 21, with NCIS: Hawai’i entering its third season. The franchise shows no signs of slowing down, much like star Sean Murray. Interestingly, another record is up for grabs – the one for most show appearances. Currently, Vance, played by Rocky Carroll, has four appearances compared to Gibbs, portrayed by Mark Harmon, with three appearances so far. However, the upcoming NCIS: Origins spinoff could tie this record.

As a dedicated fan of the long-running series NCIS, it’s no wonder that new records are being set or nearly reached, keeping us on the edge of our seats with anticipation. The upcoming Season 22 on Monday, October 14, 2024, on CBS is no exception. We can’t wait to watch Sean Murray continue his remarkable journey towards becoming the most senior actor in the franchise. Don’t miss out – mark your calendars!
