The Day of the Jackal: Lashana Lynch Hunts Eddie Redmayne's Chameleon Killer in New Peacock Trailer

As a seasoned fan of gripping thrillers and captivating performances, I can confidently say that I am absolutely thrilled about Peacock’s upcoming series, The Day of the Jackal. With Eddie Redmayne (who has masterfully portrayed everything from a transgender pioneer to a wizard) stepping into the shoes of an elusive assassin, and Lashana Lynch (whose badassery knows no bounds as the new 007’s successor) taking on the role of a tenacious British intelligence operative, this series promises to be a rollercoaster ride of suspense and intrigue.

In the trailer for Peacock’s upcoming assassin thriller TV show, “The Day of the Jackal,” Eddie Redmayne (known for his roles in “The Danish Girl” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”) is shown sporting more undercover identities than Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt from the Mission Impossible series.

The Academy Award-winning actor steps into the shoes a mysterious and highly effective killer-for-hire, who finds his match in a tenacious British intelligence operative Bianca, played by BAFTA-winner Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, No Time to Die). Given the assassin’s chameleon-like ability to blend in anywhere, the hunt across Europe won’t be an easy one, not least of all because Bianca’s superiors think she should abandon what they perceive to be a “wild goose chase.”

In a conversation with Vanity Fair during the summer months, Nigel Marchant, the executive producer, shared insights about the show. He pointed out that in today’s world, a criminal must be more cunning than ever before, which is why they chose to highlight Jackal’s skill at disguising himself. “Given that we are constantly photographed and filmed nowadays, how can this character be adaptable? How can he alter his identity?” he pondered. “This led us to explore the use of prosthetics and transforming Eddie’s appearance.

What is The Day of the Jackal about?

As a captivated reader, I’ve found myself immersed in the modern adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 masterpiece, “The Day of the Jackal.” In this thrilling tale, I step into the shoes of a tenacious British intelligence operative engaged in an intricate dance with a solitary assassin, known only by his codename: The Jackal. This elusive and deadly figure is not easily cornered, leading us both on a high-stakes chase across Europe. However, it’s clear that our cat-and-mouse game has left a path of devastation in its wake.

Previously, the same novel had been transformed into a 1973 movie titled “The Day of the Jackal,” which was directed by the renowned Fred Zinnemann, who is also known for directing “High Noon” and “From Here to Eternity.” In this adaptation, Edward Fox took on the role of the character called Jackal.

Who stars in The Day of the Jackal?

Alongside Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch, and others, this series boasts the acting prowess of Ursula Corbero from “Money Heist”, Charles Dance known for his work in “Game of Thrones”, Richard Dormer who has appeared in “Secret Invasion”, Chukwudi Iwuji from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, Lia Williams of “His Dark Materials”, Khalid Abdalla seen in “Moon Knight”, Eleanor Matsuura from “The Walking Dead”, Jonjo O’Neill known for his role in “The Fall”, Nick Blood who worked on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, Sule Rimi featured in “Andor”, and Florisa Kamara, who graced the screen in “Cruella”.
