As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can tell you that the world of social media is not unlike the vast digital landscapes we navigate in our favorite games. It’s filled with allies, adversaries, and the occasional ‘mean girl.’ However, it seems that in this case, things may not be as they initially appear.
For about a week now, Apple Martin, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, has been under scrutiny on social media following an incident at a debutante ball. A TikTok video appeared to depict the 20-year-old allegedly cutting in front of another participant during a photo moment. This video quickly gained popularity and sparked criticism against Martin, who was labeled as a “mean girl.” Now, the debutante whom Martin apparently stepped in front of has decided to share her perspective on the situation.
The woman in question is Loppin de Montmort, who was filmed at the Le Bal des Débutantes ball in Paris, alongside Apple Martin. In the video, de Montmort stood for a photo before Martin, who had been smiling, suddenly joined her and started posing as well. Following this, de Montmort appeared to smile and generally dismiss the incident that later went viral. Interestingly, de Montmort’s casual response to the photoshoot situation aligns with her recent remarks she has made publically.
People chased after Loppin de Montmort as she pursued the ball, and later, she conveyed a statement to the media outlet. According to her account, it’s been widely misconstrued that Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter resembles a “bully” or “mean girl,” but in reality, de Montmort had a different experience with her. She expressed her thoughts as follows:
Apple is undoubtedly one of the kindest individuals you’ll encounter. It’s unfair that she’s experiencing anything negative, considering how considerate and friendly she has always been – not just to me, but to everyone in our group.
More on Gwyneth Paltrow and Apple Martin
Gwyneth Paltrow learned that her TikTok posts about her strict diet had gone viral, only after Apple informed her.
Apple Martin hasn’t been the only one defending herself from recent criticism. Another attendee at the event, Sophie Kodjoe, also showed her support for the celebrity kid. Kodjoe, daughter of actors Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker, shared warm feelings about meeting Martin and was amazed to find that they move in some of the same social circles. Furthermore, a source has shed light on the situation surrounding Martin’s video, suggesting that her actions were more playful than mean when she stood in front of the cameras.
Generally speaking, Gwyneth Paltrow’s eldest child is not often in the limelight. Paltrow seldom shares photos of her firstborn, but has caught attention on certain occasions. For instance, a couple of years back, the college junior humorously commented about Paltrow’s vagina eggs, a product from Paltrow’s Goop brand. More recently, she also made a social media appearance for Paltrow’s 52nd birthday celebration.
In spite of all that, much has been said about the ball itself, as Apple Martin and nearly 20 other young ladies made their formal debuts into society. The proud Shakespeare in Love star was present for her daughter’s big night alongside ex-husband Chris Martin and their 18-year-old son, Moses. Later on, the Oscar winner posted about the event to Instagram, as she shared a video as well as several photos.
As a fan, I’m curious to see if Loppin de Montmort’s recent comments about the “mean girl” moment will help quell the storm of negative feedback on social media. However, her words seem to imply that she actually had a pleasant interaction with Apple Martin and that she didn’t take offense from the viral photo op incident at all.
