On March 14, 2025, the political thriller “The Diplomat” hit theaters, coinciding with Holi. John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb take center stage in this film. Approximately a month after its theater premiere, it’s been announced that the movie will also be available digitally. The digital release of “The Diplomat” is scheduled for May 9.
Based on a recent Jagran report, The Diplomat’s OTT premiere is scheduled for May 9, 2025. The movie’s broadcast partner has already been unveiled. From the posters and trailer, it appears the suspenseful storyline will be streamable on Netflix. Those who couldn’t catch the film during its theatrical run or want to rewatch it can now do so from the convenience of their homes.
Yet, it’s important to mention that an official announcement about the digital release date for the movie has not been made yet.
This movie, titled “The Diplomat,” is inspired by real-life events. John Abraham portrays the character of an Indian diplomat in this production. Alongside him are actors such as Sadia Khateeb, Revathy, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi. Shivam Nair helms the director’s chair for this film. Notably, it has been jointly produced by Bhushan Kumar, John Abraham, Krishan Kumar, Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl, Sameer Dixit, Jatish Varma, and Rakesh Dang.

In a private interview with TopMob, John Abraham shared that certain streaming platforms declined to air The Diplomat. He explained, “Studio executives often present their films to various streaming services as a precautionary measure to reduce financial risk. Some streaming channels have chosen not to broadcast The Diplomat because they didn’t find it compelling enough; they turned down the movie instead.
In relation to The Diplomat, John commented, “We’ve managed to exceed all expectations, proving both the studio and OTT platforms, as well as everyone else, wrong. It’s remarkable that initial expectations for The Diplomat were minimal. Thus, when we went from a zero rating to a perfect 10, people were astounded, exclaiming, ‘Wow, this is incredible!’
