Despite passing several years, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 continues to thrive against all expectations. Many fans believed that Ubisoft would eventually abandon this live-service shooter, but it appears they have different plans. Ubisoft has recently made an announcement about the game, assuring us that significant updates are planned for release in the upcoming month.
According to the official X account for the game, it’s been announced that the new season will begin on February 25th. Moreover, Ubisoft has confirmed that they are working on additional downloadable content (DLC). Unfortunately, this added content won’t be available during Year 6 as it requires more development time.
You’re undoubtedly excited for our upcoming DLC release! To make sure it lives up to your expectations, we’re putting in some extra effort to perfect it. Unfortunately, this means that the DLC won’t be released during Year 6.
Many supporters are puzzled as to why Ubisoft isn’t moving on to The Division 3 or making another change. Announcing additional content for a game that’s been around for years feels disheartening, given that the live-service title hasn’t provided players with many new experiences in quite some time.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Ubisoft has taken some unconventional paths with The Division 2. They halted the development of a free-to-play spin-off titled The Division Heartland to focus on XDefiant instead. However, after investing several years into XDefiant, Ubisoft has decided to cease its production as well, making these efforts seem fruitless in hindsight.
Looking at some past choices Ubisoft has made, it’s intriguing to speculate if they might eventually grasp the lessons they seem to be missing. While games like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows appear promising, there are concerns that their familiar open-world design could lead to repetition. The company isn’t on the verge of collapse, but recent whispers about a potential sale suggest things aren’t going smoothly.
Here’s what we currently know about The Division 2, but for more on Ubisoft, fans might be interested to learn that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has undergone heavy censorship in Japan. Meanwhile, retro gaming enthusiasts could enjoy reading about Ben Schwartz, the voice actor of Sonic, owning an Anbernic handheld device – a fun fact!
