The EMC SR-71 Is the Newest Reimagining of URWERK's Award-Winning Model

As a seasoned gamer of both digital and physical timepieces, I can’t help but feel a sense of admiration for URWERK’s latest creation – the EMC SR-71 Limited Edition. With a decade under its belt, this watch has proven its mettle, winning double accolades at the 2014 GPHG awards and now returning with an improved design that caters to my preference for robust materials like titanium and steel.

2020 marks the tenth anniversary of URWERK’s EMC, a timepiece that received double honors at the 2014 GPHG awards in Geneva. To commemorate this significant milestone, the independent watchmaker reveals a new interpretation of the model, affectionately called the EMC SR-71.

As a restricted run of only 10 units, this unique reference gets an upgrade to a durable titanium and steel construction. The case, characterized by its distinctive shape, boasts a diameter of 47.5mm and features a crank handle made from SR-71 alloy.

The watch face resembles an instrument panel, featuring four distinct dials that display the hours, minutes, seconds, and power reserve. Regarding the new timepiece, Martin Frei, co-founder and artistic director of URWERK, explains that “The watch face serves as a personal cockpit; beyond just showing the time, the EMC also offers insights into its functionality and operation. It’s a one-of-a-kind and thrilling journey.”

As a gamer, I can’t help but marvel at the UR-EMC caliber shining brightly through the open caseback of this watch. This bad boy ticks away at an astounding pace of 28,800 vibrations per hour, giving it an impressive running time of up to 80 hours without needing a recharge.

Currently, you can explore the details of the EMC SR-71 on URWERK’s website, which carries a price tag of approximately 150,000 Swiss Francs or about 175,416 US dollars.
