Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for grand finale events, it has been favoring less dramatic conclusions to its phases as of late. For instance, Avengers: Endgame didn’t mark the conclusion of Phase 3; instead, Spider-Man: No Way Home held that title. Similarly, while Thunderbolts seems like a fitting ending for Phase 5, it’s not. Instead, Ironheart has taken on that role as the culmination of the phase.
Many supporters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might express that as time passes and the franchise grows larger, it seems to lack coherence or quality, with some even suggesting they’re experiencing “Marvel fatigue.” However, it’s important to remember that these later phases may seem disjointed due to a variety of subjective reasons. After all, being a fan involves expressing your opinions, and everyone has their own unique perspective.
It’s clear that the decline of streaming hasn’t been beneficial, regardless of your views on the quality of Marvel shows on Disney+ in recent years. The scheduling for shows like Ironheart and Andor, which seem strikingly alike, has left even dedicated MCU fans questioning their commitment to these series. If the intention is to wrap them up swiftly, it’s hard not to feel indifferent, even if they turn out to be excellent.
I generally share the widespread viewpoint that “Endgame” should have wrapped up this saga, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t felt quite the same since then. It’s understandable to attribute this change to nostalgia, and in many ways, you’d be justified in doing so. However, I’m also aware that a highly successful franchise like the MCU isn’t likely to conclude at its peak popularity. That’s highly unlikely.
As we approach the conclusion of another Marvel Cinematic Universe phase, it seems that Ironheart, despite its potential, may not receive the attention it deserves. I always reserve judgment until I’ve seen the whole story unfold. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the next film and won’t have to wait long for it. Unfortunately, Ironheart might feel like a brief interlude in the grand scheme of things, with Riri Williams appearing in future projects when necessary.
It’s rumored that we’ll see more of Daredevil: Born Again, but if streaming really is on its last legs, Ironheart could mark the end of an era in multiple ways.
