‘The Equalizer’ Canceled at CBS After Five Seasons

CBS has decided to end its drama series, The Equalizer, marking the conclusion of the show on their network following a run of five seasons.

As a devoted fan, I’m sharing some exciting news: The announcement comes merely two days before the fifth season finale of “The Equalizer,” airing on May 4th. This episode, rather than serving as a mid-season ender, will now mark the series finale. It seems that this year, viewership for the show has noticeably decreased as it shifted to a later timeslot on Sunday evenings. Currently, it attracts slightly under 6 million viewers in a week’s worth of Nielsen-measured delayed viewing (excluding streaming), which is a significant drop from the 7.89 million viewers we saw last season.

Due to its cancellation, CBS finds itself without any scripted shows from the 2024-25 season in an uncertain state. The series “The Equalizer”, along with established dramas like “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted”, as well as the freshman comedy “Poppa’s House”, have all been axed. Notably, the long-running series “Blue Bloods” concluded its run in December.

The television series titled “The Equalizer,” which aired from 1985-89 and was later turned into movies featuring Denzel Washington, has been reimagined with Queen Latifah playing the lead role as Robyn McCall. A former CIA agent, she now uses her skills to help people solve their problems outside of the official system. Joining her in this series are Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint.

Initially, CBS created a possible spinoff show featuring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz. However, they ultimately decided against moving forward with this project. Instead, both actors made appearances on an episode from April, which was intended to establish the spinoff’s premise.

The Equalizer is jointly produced by Universal Television and CBS Studios. The show’s executive producers are Joseph C. Wilson, Dana Owens (also known as Queen Latifah), Debra Martin Chase, Shakim Compere, John Davis, John Fox, Loretha Jones, and Rob Hanning.

On May 7th, CBS will unveil their schedule for the years 2025 and 2026. Stay informed about all the show cancellations, renewals, and new series announcements by checking out THR’s broadcast schedule chart.
