Each streaming platform boasts its own critically acclaimed original series, and Hulu subscribers have been engrossed in the saga of The Handmaid‘s Tale for quite some time now. The novel-turned-TV show is nearing the end of its sixth and final season, leaving viewers eager to find out how it all concludes. However, with the creator hinting at “unanswered questions”, I can’t help but fear we might be left hanging on a cliffhanger.
Rather than others debating on how to catch up with Season 6 of “The Handmaid’s Tale”, I, as an ardent fan, eagerly await the series finale. Although the final episode may lay the groundwork for the spinoff titled “The Testaments“, I am hopeful that it will provide a conclusive ending to June’s journey. Recently, creator Bruce Miller shared some insights about the show’s conclusion with Us Weekly, hinting:
I hope [viewers] have questions when the show ends.
Suddenly, I find myself feeling quite apprehensive. As The Testaments promises to carry on the tale of Gilead, I can only hope that the unresolved questions won’t spoil the conclusion of The Handmaid‘s Tale. If it does, it might unfortunately earn a place among some of the most underwhelming TV endings.

Considering the intense emotions shown by fans of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” it’s likely not just me who longs for a resolution. Characters like June, Moira, and Janine have endured much under Gilead, and they truly deserve joyful conclusions. In the same conversation, Miller explained his preference for some plot points to remain ambiguous within the series, stating:
After finishing the book, I found myself with countless unanswered questions. If our interpretation of the story aligns with yours, then it’s likely that you too will be left wondering about various aspects of the narrative.
The statement isn’t incorrect. In essence, the book “The Handmaid’s Tale” corresponds to Season 1 of the series, where June is taken from the Waterfords by the Eyes and her subsequent fate remains uncertain. The epilogue provides hints about the narrator, but leaves many questions unanswered. The sequel novel, “The Testaments,” ultimately discloses what transpired with June and her children; however, it was not published until much later on in time.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but speculate on the implications of the upcoming TV adaptation of “The Testaments.” With the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” approaching, it seems likely that it will lay some groundwork for this spinoff. The questions Miller mentioned might be referring to these very narrative seeds planted in the series finale.
For the concluding chapter of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the tension seems palpable, as the previews suggest that long-awaited resistance against Gilead is on the horizon. Fingers crossed that June and her dear ones can somehow escape unscathed.
Every Tuesday, you can catch new episodes of “The Handmaid’s Tale” streaming on Hulu, making it a highlight in the current TV premiere lineup. However, at this point, we don’t have information about when the production for “The Testaments” will start.
