As a fan who had the privilege of witnessing Naomi Scott‘s electrifying performance in “Smile 2,” I can confidently say that her portrayal of Skye Riley will go down as one of the most captivating and challenging roles in horror film history. ⚠️ HEED THIS NOTE: The ensuing text discloses crucial details about the finale of “Smile 2”. Proceed with caution if you haven’t watched the movie yet! 🎥🍿

The character of Skye Riley, the lead in the film “Smile 2“, presented a highly challenging task for actor Naomi Scott. As the central figure in a horror movie already requires significant emotional intensity and adrenaline, Skye being a pop superstar added additional pressures such as singing, dance routines (and let’s not forget the water gulping!). Overall, making this film was no walk in the park – however, for Scott, it was the pivotal scene where Skye confronts a demonic version of herself that remains etched in her mind as the most formidable hurdle she faced during production.

In the video you see, I recently interviewed Naomi Scott at the LA press day for “Smile 2”. Towards the end of our chat, I delved into some spoiler territory. I’m particularly interested in the filming process for scenes where actors portray multiple versions of themselves, and Naomi’s experience making this horror movie was quite intense, as she revealed during our discussion.

Over those four days, I found them particularly challenging. It might have been due to the tight quarters, occasional smoke, and other unexpected elements, but I believe the main reason is the rapid changes and transitions we needed to make, which were numerous and intense. All in all, I can confidently say that it was one of the toughest periods I’ve experienced during my career.

In the pivotal scene from Smile 2, I found myself on Staten Island, seeking solace from my curse in the company of Morris, an ER nurse (Peter Jacobson). The journey led me to a chilling former Pizza Hut, where I was strapped onto a table inside a freezer. There, I was given a potent drug meant to end my life temporarily. However, during the procedure, my gaze shifted upwards towards the ceiling and I saw an eerie reflection of myself dangling from a seatbelt, mirroring my state post-near-fatal car accident.

It seems that the scene was filmed during additional filming sessions, and it proved to be both physically and emotionally taxing for Naomi Scott. Not only did she need to exercise her abdominal muscles by hanging from the ceiling, but she also asked writer/director Parker Finn for permission to give an all-out performance as Demon Skye. She added that…

During certain scenes, there were instances involving a fair amount of instability, as you’ll understand when you watch it. This was particularly true during reshoots, and for one specific part of Skye’s character, I wasn’t sure what to do. So, I turned to Parker and asked if I should take a risk and fully commit. He agreed, and I took the plunge. Later, I confessed to him, “I’m not sure!” I essentially threw caution to the wind in that scene. Here’s hoping it pays off!

As a fan, let me share my experience: That intense sequence in Smile 2 left me utterly gripped, causing me to be pressed firmly into my seat. To this day, I’m still amazed by the intensity it delivered, and it definitely had an impact on me.

If you’re still pondering how best to celebrate Halloween 2024, consider checking out the movie “Smile 2” in theaters now. Even if you’ve already seen this highly praised horror sequel once before, it might be worth revisiting your local cinema for another viewing, as director Parker Finn hints that there are hidden details you may have missed on your initial watch.
