The House Of The Dragon Cast Doesn't Know Jack About Season 3 Yet, But Emma D'Arcy Has A Great Idea For Rhaenyra

As a dedicated fan who has journeyed through the tumultuous lands of Westeros and Essos countless times, I find myself eagerly awaiting the next chapter in House of the Dragon. The tantalizing glimpses we’ve been given into the world of fire and blood have left me yearning for more, but alas, even the cast remains as clueless as the rest of us about what lies ahead in Season 3.

In August, “House of the Dragon” reinforced its ties to “Game of Thrones” more strongly than ever before, leaving many questions unanswered. The ongoing saga of the Targaryen family’s civil war promises to deliver more, but details about what lies ahead are scarce. Interestingly, even the cast has limited knowledge about Season 3 of “House of the Dragon”, but Emma D’Arcy‘s suggestion for a change in Rhaenyra’s character offers an intriguing thought as we continue our wait and the TV schedule for 2024 begins to wind down.

The Stars Don’t Know Jack

Otto Hightower, a character from “House of the Dragon,” had his later events in Season 2 left unexplained after being dismissed by Aegon and departing King’s Landing. The series hasn’t provided clarification yet on what became of him, and actor Rhys Ifans has also been silent about it. During an interview with Inverse, Ifans admitted that he too is unsure about Otto’s fate in the show.

As an actor, my character’s current situation remains a mystery to me, just like it does for you. No one with any certainty or power has given me specific details about his whereabouts at this point. All we can confirm is that he’s somehow managing to stay alive within the storyline, and that’s all I know as well – not much more than the fans do.

After Aegon dismissed Otto and appointed Criston Cole instead, it’s intriguing to contemplate whether Otto’s allegiance has changed or remains steadfast, given his deep-rooted ties with his family. However, it seems unlikely that he would switch sides so dramatically, but only time will tell for the viewers eagerly awaiting this revelation.

Actors who appeared more frequently in Season 2 than Rhys Ifans didn’t provide any insights either. During the New York Comic Con panel, as reported by Variety, Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon) admitted that he knew “absolutely nothing” about the scripts for Season 3, while Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) added his own lack of knowledge: they both seem clueless about the upcoming season’s plot.

I’ve not heard hide nor hair. I don’t know about you guys. I’ve not heard a thing.

Given that Daemon’s hallucinatory storyline was one of the most significant departures from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood in Season 2, reading the book would provide Matt Smith with little to no insight into what lies ahead! Fabien Frankel, who portrays Ser Criston Cole, hinted at something more mysterious than his fellow cast members, alluding to an unexpected development.

I’ve heard some things that I couldn’t possibly share here.

In a different take compared to his book version, the character Criston Cole from ‘House of the Dragon’ deviated significantly, even going beyond how Season 1 altered one of Cole’s kills as per the original material. Contrary to George R.R. Martin’s criticisms in Season 2, Cole’s storyline didn’t follow his described arc. As for what Frankel might have hinted about Season 3, he hasn’t disclosed any specific details that have been shared with him.

Emma D’Arcy’s Fun Idea

Is it possible that Emma D’Arcy knows as much as her fellow cast members regarding the plans for House of the Dragon‘s third season? However, in an interview with The Guardian, the actress has shared a creative suggestion for a potential shift from Rhaenyra’s role in the war effort during Season 2. She discussed what she appreciates about the show and her desired changes.

One way to rephrase the given text in a more natural and easy-to-read manner is as follows:

Although Rhaenyra has occasionally joined the war efforts from atop her dragon, it wouldn’t be prudent for her to engage in frequent battles due to the importance of her family’s claim resting solely on her. Could Season 3 present an opportunity for Rhaenyra to wield a sword instead?

Regrettably, Emma D’Arcy and fans alike may have to wait a while longer before they get new episodes of House of the Dragon. It seems unlikely that it will return any earlier than 2026. In the meantime, you can catch up on the first two seasons by streaming them with a Max subscription, or revisit all eight seasons of Game of Thrones as well.
