'The Hulk's Reading Thanos' Book': Mark Ruffalo Shares Love While Reading Fellow MCU Vet Josh Brolin's New Memoir

As a fan of both Mark Ruffalo and Josh Brolin, it’s fascinating to witness their camaraderie off-screen despite the intense rivalry their characters share on screen. Reading through Mark’s Instagram post about Josh’s memoir, I couldn’t help but feel like I was watching the Hulk reading Thanos’ book – a surreal image that made my day!

In 2018, when the 19th Marvel movie, “Avengers: Infinity War” was released, a significant scene was Thanos overpowering the Hulk so severely that Bruce Banner didn’t revert back to the Hulk in “Avengers: Endgame”, with their personas being combined instead. Interestingly enough, off-screen, actors Mark Ruffalo and Josh Brolin have a friendly relationship. For instance, Ruffalo expressed admiration for Brolin’s memoir on social media, prompting one fan to humorously remark that it was like “The Hulk reading Thanos’ book.

Brolin’s memoir, titled From Under the Truck: A Memoir, was released last week, and Ruffalo is among the many who acquired a copy. Clearly he’s having a good time reading, as evidenced by what he posted on Instagram:

Upon reading the comments below, you’ll notice that one fan accurately summed up this post, while another expressed their desire for a Hulk vs Thanos rematch featuring Mark Ruffalo. However, it’s important to note that the original Hulk no longer exists, as Bruce Banner now remains in his intelligent Hulk form (except during Phase Four when he temporarily transformed back into human form to heal his injured arm). Nevertheless, Mark Ruffalo seems to be enjoying gaining insights into Josh Brolin’s life through his memoir, which he described as a powerful tribute to the healing and redeeming influences of art, love, and a higher power.

This month, Brolin has been busy doing interviews to publicize his latest film “From Under the Truck” and discussing various other topics. During these discussions, he recounted an instance where he didn’t realize Denzel Washington was fully in character, shared his thoughts on James Cameron’s supposed frustration over his decision not to be part of “Avatar”, and more. In terms of Marvel, although “Avengers: Endgame” was his final portrayal of Thanos in the films, Brolin did lend his voice to alternate versions of the character in two episodes of “What If…?”, which are available for streaming on Disney+. However, there’s no hint that he will ever reprise the role of Thanos again in any capacity.

Regarding Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk character, it’s unclear what lies ahead, but there’s a higher probability he’ll appear again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the final episode of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” Bruce Banner, who had departed for space following Jennifer Walters’ training, returned to Earth and presented his son Skaar. Although it’s yet unknown when this storyline will be continued, it seems likely that Ruffalo will reprise his role as Intelligent Hulk in the forthcoming Marvel films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.

In terms of their non-Marvel projects, you’ll find both actors on the movie schedule for 2025 quite frequently. Josh Brolin will appear in “Wake Up Dead Man” and “The Running Man,” while Mark Ruffalo will feature in “Mickey 17,” “Now You See Me 3,” and “Crime 101.
