As a seasoned design enthusiast who has traversed numerous trends and epochs in the world of furniture and lighting, I find myself captivated by the vibrant and innovative creations that have emerged in recent times. The collection unveiled by Form for Serax, titled Sculptural Confluence, is a testament to the boundless creativity that continues to thrive in the realm of design.

In the northern hemisphere during summer, there’s a tranquil pause on the design scene as festivals halt and most product launches slow down significantly. The activity resumes again in full swing by September.

As a design enthusiast who has been following the design world for quite some time now, I must say that July was a month filled with awe-inspiring discoveries. From my journey in sunny Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign to mindlessly scrolling through social media, I stumbled upon an array of designs that truly caught my eye and stirred my creative soul. After careful consideration, I’ve narrowed down the list to the top 10 that I believe deserve a spotlight in Hypeform‘s best of July. Here they are, showcasing the very best that design has to offer. Formafantasma and Artek

In September, Formafantasma and Artek are set to unveil their “Forest” series, an extension of their collaborative work from last year. Since its inception in the 1930s, Artek’s furniture has often been made from birch trees carefully harvested in Finland’s central region. To meet aesthetic standards, logs without any unusual markings have typically been chosen to ensure a sleek appearance. However, Formafantasma proposed utilizing more of the tree, and that’s exactly what the Forest collection aims to achieve.

It’s delightful when designers craft items for their personal spaces, as they’ve surely poured considerable thought into the design. Archivo is an excellent example of this dedication. Hayon sought custom shelves to showcase his travel mementos and &Tradition assisted him in materializing the idea. Now, you can enjoy it as well, available in three options: sky blue, black grey, or natural oak.

The Swiss-German duo Hannes & Fritz have designed Vero’s inaugural outdoor collection, called “Hongkong”. As the name implies, this series takes design cues from Hong Kong, focusing on the distinctive appearance of stainless steel front door gates found in numerous old residential buildings across the city. The collection encompasses a chair, a stool, a bench, two tables, each embodying a unique fusion of avant-garde daringness and minimalist aesthetics.

As an interior designer with over two decades of experience in creating unique dining spaces, I must say that the “futuristic canteen” concept by Rudy Guénaire for Matsuri on rue Victor Hugo in Paris truly caught my eye. The fusion of modern technology and nostalgic design elements is a testament to Guénaire’s ability to push the boundaries of what is possible in restaurant design.

Bob Verhelst has spanned various aspects of design, including theater costumes, store displays, visual arts, and scenography. Now, he unveils his debut collection for Serax – called Sculptural Confluence. The entire collection is captivating, featuring mood lamps, trays, versatile side tables, an armchair, but the vases truly shine, arriving in a set of angular designs that Verhelst initially fashioned from cardboard.

Standard Equipment and Caliper

In Madrid, Caliper – a renowned manufacturer – operates an exclusive program called the “Editions Programme”. Through this initiative, they partner with designers to fabricate unique, limited-run items. Earlier, they joined forces with Nifemi Marcus-Bello on the “Selah Lamp 2.0” project. Currently, they are teaming up with Standard Equipment to develop the “3019_TableLamp”. This contemporary lamp is made from aluminum, featuring a distinctive vibrated surface, custom silicone washers, and an artisanal acrylic diffuser.

At “Árboles”, a joint exhibition by Barcelona-based artist Klas Ernflo and designer Marc Morro, these pieces were displayed. Located in neighboring studios, they decided to collaborate and observe what would emerge from their combined creativity. Consequently, Ernflo’s etchings are intricately carved into and then painted onto some of Morro’s solid wood furniture creations.

These intricately crafted tables are reminiscent of the vibrant stained glass windows found in Qatari architecture. Each one is made from acrylic, with colorful patterns created by trapped recycled yarn within the material itself. According to Shaikha Al Sulaiti, “It’s actually the yarn that brings each piece its vivid hues.” She explains that “Wahaaj” means bright and radiant, reflecting her vision for a culturally rich celebration that sparkles with life and energy.

SUNNEI and CC-Tapis

In this collection by SUNNEI and CC-Tapis, an impressive set of seven rugs are featured. These rugs, crafted using a technique called “robotufting,” subtly incorporate surreal animal forms into their fibers, creating a striking visual impact with bold colors. This collaboration between the two Milanese brands resulted from the creation of a large rug for SUNNEI’s FW24 fashion show by CC-Tapis.
