The Last of Us Season 2 Gets Hugely Exciting Production Update

As a dedicated fan who has journeyed through the post-apocalyptic wastelands of The Last of Us for years, I can hardly contain my excitement as season 2 of this phenomenal series has officially wrapped filming. The anticipation is palpable, much like the fear of clickers in the game, and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for its release.

Joel and Ellie’s post-apocalyptic journey will continue on our screens now that filming for Season 2 of HBO’s “The Last of Us” has come to an end. Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay as the main characters, this series, inspired by the popular video games from Naughty Dog Studios, takes place 12 years after a viral outbreak that transformed 90% of humanity into fungal zombies. The first season was incredibly successful, winning 8 Primetime Emmy Awards despite strong competition from shows like “Succession,” “Better Call Saul,” “House of the Dragon,” and “The Crown.”

Excitedly speaking about my favorite show, I can’t hide my joy as Season 2 of “The Last of Us” is officially underway. HBO swiftly approved the production of this highly anticipated season, which will delve into half of the content from the second game in the series. The filming started back in February this year and, after six months of dedicated work, it’s now wrapped up as we transition into post-production.

Hurray! Kudos to the exceptional team behind #TheLastOfUs season 2. Your efforts are coming home to us soon!

HBO’s adaptation of “The Last of Us,” masterfully crafted by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, is being widely praised as one of the best video game adaptations ever made. Drawing inspiration from the original game, Mazin and Druckmann didn’t just translate the series into live-action; they skillfully developed some aspects that were less fleshed out in the game. The sequel to the game, “The Last of Us Part II,” leaps forward five years, portraying a more aged Joel and a 19-year-old Ellie. Keen observers have spotted hints in the first official photos from Season 2 that suggest the new season will also advance the timeline by this same amount.

Besides significantly speeding up the storyline, the second season of The Last of Us will not only depict a world where Joel, Ellie, and Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) have established a home in the town of Jackson, Wyoming, but also introduce fresh, pivotal characters to the series. The most significant newcomer for Season 2 is Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever. Abby has sparked much debate over the second game in the series due to her prominent role.

Without giving away plot details, a character takes an action that significantly changes the course of events within the story, leaving many viewers worldwide disappointed. This decision has caused quite a stir among fans, leading to such backlash against the character that actress Kaitlyn Dever needed additional security on set during filming to protect her from potential confrontations with upset fans. Actress Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in Season 2, disclosed this information.
