The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer Revealed One Of The Series’ Scariest Monsters

The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer Revealed One Of The Series' Scariest Monsters

As a die-hard fan of “The Last of Us” series, I can confidently say that the new Season 2 trailer has me on the edge of my seat! The introduction of Isaac Dixon, portrayed by the talented Jeffrey Wright, promises to bring an even darker and more intense human antagonist into the post-apocalyptic world.

Warning: This text may reveal plot details from the video game “The Last of Us Part II” and potentially upcoming events in “The Last of Us” TV series season 2. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

In the haunting post-apocalyptic world of “The Last of Us,” Cordyceps creatures might play the role of terrifying infestations, but it’s human beings who have consistently proven to be the most fearsome monsters throughout the series. This is especially true in the HBO live-action adaptation, where a ruthless and formidable human antagonist named Kathleen (played by Melanie Lynskey) emerges as a significant threat during Season 1.

The second season teaser trailer for “The Last of Us” makes it clear that it will continue to explore the darker aspects of humanity. Following scenes of a horde of Cordyceps zombies assaulting Jackson, Wyoming’s settlement, we see a stern man in a military sweater standing guard over a prisoner. For those familiar with “The Last of Us” series, this character is none other than Isaac Dixon, one of the most menacing and dangerous figures throughout the show. Let’s delve deeper into his background.

The Last of Us Season 2 Trailer introduces Isaac Dixon — but who is he?

In “The Last of Us Part II,” Isaac Dixon first appears on the scene, playing a significant role in Abby Anderson’s (portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever) narrative. As the stern leader of the Washington Liberation Front in Seattle, Isaac clashes with a religious group called the Seraphites, which eventually leads to him and Abby, who safeguards two Seraphite members, being on opposite sides, making her a fugitive.

From my perspective as a devoted fan, I can’t help but acknowledge that Isaac, with his military background and vast resources, is undeniably one of the most formidable characters in this game. His relentless pursuit to annihilate an entire survivor group transforms him into a war-driven, potential genocide instigator – a chilling portrayal of a despot even by the harsh standards set in “The Last of Us.

Why The Last of Us Season 2’s Isaac looks so familiar

In the game “The Last of Us Part II”, the character Isaac Dixon is played by Jeffrey Wright, who also provides his voice for the role. If you’re not familiar with his name, you might recognize him from his impressive acting resume. Wright earned an Academy Award nomination for his leading role in the 2023 comedy-drama “American Fiction.” However, given the post-apocalyptic setting of “The Last of Us”, it would be more beneficial to focus on his genre and action work, which happens to be quite extensive.

Wright is the reigning live-action Jim Gordon, making his debut as the Gotham City law enforcement stalwart in “The Batman.” He was James Bond’s CIA contact Felix Leiter during Daniel Craig’s 007 era. He starred as Bernard Lowe on HBO’s “Westworld,” and was Beetee Latier in the Hunger Games movies. Should he actually make a sound in the teaser, Wright’s voice would also be immediately familiar to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he voices Uatu the Watcher on the animated Disney+ anthology series “What If…?” Combine such accolades with his vast dramatic experience that ranges from his role as Valentin Narcisse on “Boardwalk Empire” to Winston in “Broken Flowers,” and you can expect “The Last of Us” Season 2 to back the threat of Isaac up with a whole lot of gravitas and acting talent.

Other scary things The Last of Us Season 2 trailer reveals

The trailer doesn’t reveal anything about the grossest creature in “The Last of Us,” the Rat King Cordyceps. While it teases the same controversial character death that previous set footage has hinted at, it doesn’t really reveal all that many details of “The Last of Us” Season 2. Nevertheless, there are a few scary hints at things to come aside from the Isaac reveal.

The creepy, suspiciously blood-like “Feel Her Love” graffiti on the wall and the symbol beneath it are a reference to Isaac’s least-favorite faction, the Seraphites. These primitive religious fanatics are a definite antagonistic force, but as some individual Seraphites demonstrate in the game, they’re not necessarily a fully malevolent group of people. They subscribe to the teachings of a mysterious prophet, and prefer an ascetic lifestyle. However, with their peculiar beliefs and brutal whistle-based guerrilla battle tactics, they’re a truly terrifying force to be up against.

In the design of the moth on the guitar, there’s a sense of foreboding. This moth is similar to Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) tattoo from “The Last Of Us Part II,” which was intentionally designed to evoke memories of the Fireflies faction’s symbol and the consequences of Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) actions at the end of the first game and Season 1. The creative team incorporated it as a symbol of the growing tension between Joel and Ellie, a theme that is central to “Part II” and sets the stage for some very unsettling events. Interestingly, these unsettling events are also introduced with the initial appearance of Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby Anderson (Abby), seen here kneeling at a grave. While it’s expected that this significant character would appear in “The Last of Us” Season 2, she poses a serious threat to both Ellie and Joel…making her a chilling sight to behold.
