As I sat through the gripping finale of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3, my heart raced with anticipation and my mind buzzed with intrigue. This series has become more than just a legal drama for me; it’s an exhilarating journey into the murky waters of justice, morality, and human nature.
caution: The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 finale may reveal significant plot twists! After the final episode of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer wrapped up on October 17, there were more unanswered questions than ever before. It’s understandable if you’ve already watched all ten episodes in one go, feeling both gratified by the resolution and annoyed that you’ll have to wait at least a year for another installment of Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) thrilling cases.
In the third series of the program, character Julian La Cosse (played by Devon Graye) stands accused for the murder of Gloria Dayton (Fiona Rene), also known as Glory Days, a sex worker and a former client who had become a friend to Haller. However, Julian maintains his innocence, stating that he worked with Glory Days but did not kill her. So, the question remains: if it wasn’t Julian, then who is responsible for her death? Mickey and his group are committed to uncovering the truth.
First, let’s discuss the shocking finale that leaves us eagerly anticipating the show’s comeback. Now, let’s unravel the mystery behind Mickey’s fate in the last episode of Season 3. However, before we delve into that, it would be beneficial to explore who actually orchestrated the demise of Glory Days.
What Happened in Season 3?
As Julian faces trial for the murder of Glory Days, he maintains his innocence, and eventually, Mickey comes to believe him. However, despite trusting Julian’s honesty, Mickey and his team must determine who the actual killer is. It seems that this person wants to remain hidden, and Mickey experiences multiple dangerous situations as someone attempts to intimidate him — such as a rattlesnake being placed in his bed, a car colliding with his Lincoln, the murder of his driver Eddie (Allyn Moriyon), and ultimately, Julian getting attacked while in prison.
As it all unfolded, I came to understand that it was none other than James De Marco, a crooked Drug Enforcement Administration agent, who was pulling the strings. He had been in cahoots with the Juarez cartel from Tijuana, Mexico, aiming to take down a rival cartel boss, Hector Moya. Once he discovered that Glory, a client of Hector’s, was in possession of incriminating evidence against him for drug trafficking and prostitution, he manipulated her into planting a gun on him, effectively sending him away for life. With Glory out of the picture, De Marco neatly resolved his mess by taking care of her too.
Mickey managed to have the court hear about the events leading to Glory’s death by bringing Neil Bishop, an investigator for the District Attorney’s office who was under De Marco’s control, to testify. Exhausted with De Marco’s influence, Bishop revealed everything he knew to the court. He then pulled out a gun concealed in his boot and took his own life. As a result, both Julian and Hector Moya were released, while De Marco was ultimately eliminated by the cartel.
What Happens in the Cliffhanger Ending?
At the close of Season 3, Episode 10 titled “The Gods of Guilt,” Mickey decides to leave an otherwise joyous dinner with his peers in honor of Julian’s victory. His intention was to embark on a much-needed vacation. However, during his drive, he is stopped by a police officer, leaving him puzzled as he hadn’t been speeding. The officer leads him to the rear of the car and points out that Mickey is missing his back license plate. Mickey requests a ticket for this infraction, but as he departs, the officer notices blood trickling from his vehicle.
Despite the police officer insisting that he opens the trunk, Mickey stands firm in his knowledge of his rights and declines. However, the officer persists in his attempts. He arrests Mickey, handcuffs him, and eventually opens the truck himself. Inside, they find the lifeless body of Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton).
Sam Scales was one of Mickey’s clients, appearing in all three seasons of the show. Mickey and his coworker Lorna (Becki Newton) often came to Sam’s aid when he found himself in trouble. However, neither Mickey nor Lorna held Sam in high regard, particularly because of his habitual non-payment. Yet, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Mickey was the one who killed him. Instead, it appears someone is framing Mickey as a scapegoat, and figuring out who that person is is the question at hand. There are likely numerous individuals who wished Sam harm and an equal number who would like to see Mickey incarcerated.
Is There a Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer In the Works?
Despite Netflix not yet confirming whether the popular legal drama will return for a fourth season, it’s reasonable to assume that the desire for more episodes might be strong. Moreover, the upcoming season is expected to delve deeply into Mickey and his team’s personal lives, which could serve as a compelling reason for Netflix to renew the series.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, portraying character Mickey, shared with Today his take on Mickey’s response upon discovering the contents and occupant of his trunk at the end of Season 3: “In that moment, he realizes that his entire life is falling apart when he sees what’s inside and who it is.” The actor hinted at several possibilities regarding the true identity of Sam’s killer, stating, “There are many names that come to mind.” For viewers, he expressed, “It’s an incredible season finale. It leaves you exclaiming, ‘Oh my goodness!'” Here’s hoping for a fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer so we can uncover the truth behind Sam’s murder and Mickey’s setup.
